Movie Marathon (Part 2)

Not at all. It didn’t take long to google-up an earlier example, even excluding more ‘innocent’ uses like virgin forest, or Virgin Mary.

From Stingaree (1934):

Mrs. Clarkson: …Why, the very foundation of empire is woman’s virginity.
Sir Julian Kent: Chastity, madame, chastity. No empire would get very far with virginity.

Movies you know you should watch, but just never have

  1. Schindler’s List
  2. Rocky

The 1980 film? I haven’t seen that, but I saw the 1946 Sherlock Holmes film, and I’m pretty sure it didn’t happen there, albeit, I saw it a looooong time ago.

Been scouring lists of “Must-see” movies for days looking for something besides Rocky and The Godfather that I haven’t seen. Hate mob movies and Sylvester Stallone. Actually do want to see #10 some day.

Movie Which You Thought was as Good as the Book (or better)

  1. Housekeeping
  2. A Clockwork Orange
  3. Breakheart Pass

Not surprising, though, when you consider that the guy who wrote the book (Alistair MacLean) also wrote the screenplay.

I am aware that this is not a common opinion and I agree that Bill Murray was not up to the starring role despite this being his own vanity project, but the script really trimmed and tightened up a lot of the pretentious twaddle in Somerset Maugham’s book and, Murray aside, the cast was great.
