The Great Locomotive Chase – The April, 1862 ‘Andrews Raid’ in which a group of Union soldiers went behind Confederate lines to hijack a train and proceed north, burning railroad bridges to disrupt supply routes as they did so.

Movies not about, but with a real, historical event happening as a backdrop
Licorice Pizza - the OPEC Oil Embargo of the 70s
Back when there were cars lined up for blocks to buy gas.
Hmm. I saw The Florida Project and don’t remember EPCOT being mentioned at all. The movie came out in 2017 and was set in the present day; EPCOT opened back in 1982. The Wiki article on the movie doesn’t say anything about EPCOT, either, that I saw.

Licorice Pizza - the OPEC Oil Embargo of the 70s
The Florida Project - The opening of what was then known as EPCOT Center at Walt Disney World.
A Walk on the Moon - Woodstock and the Apollo 11 Moon landing
My bad. Somehow I had it in my head that The Florida Project was set c. 1981, and that the setting highlighted the appalling juxtaposition of the dreary existence of the lower middle class with the hopeful (and fake) Disney michegas happening 25 miles away.

Medium Cool - The 1968 Democratic National Convention, in Chicago, and the surrounding protests and civil disorder
Several key scenes were actually filmed during and amidst the protests surrounding the convention.

Glory - Colonel Robert Gould Shaw leads his men headlong into certain death, for the, uh, glory of it all. True story (though liberties were taken with the truth).
