  10. Thirteen Days - The Cuban Missile Crisis

Movies not about, but with a real, historical event happening as a backdrop

  1. Licorice Pizza - the OPEC Oil Embargo of the 70s

Back when there were cars lined up for blocks to buy gas.

  1. Licorice Pizza - the OPEC Oil Embargo of the 70s

  2. The Florida Project - The opening of what was then known as EPCOT Center at Walt Disney World.

“Historical” may not be the right word, but it was certainly a Very Big Deal at the time.

Hmm. I saw The Florida Project and don’t remember EPCOT being mentioned at all. The movie came out in 2017 and was set in the present day; EPCOT opened back in 1982. The Wiki article on the movie doesn’t say anything about EPCOT, either, that I saw.

  3. A Walk on the Moon - Woodstock and the Apollo 11 Moon landing

My bad. Somehow I had it in my head that The Florida Project was set c. 1981, and that the setting highlighted the appalling juxtaposition of the dreary existence of the lower middle class with the hopeful (and fake) Disney michegas happening 25 miles away.
