1976: Rocky
1977: Annie Hall
“They did not take me in the Army. I was 4-P. In the event of war, I’m a hostage.”
1978: Grease
1979: Being There
1980: Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears; last of three Soviet films to win US Academy Award for Best Foreign Film.
1981: Time Bandits
1982: E.T.a
1983: The Big Chill
1984: Amadeus
Still a classic. F. Murray earned that damn Oscar.
1985: Back to the Future, baby! “1.21 gigawatts?! Great scott!”
1986: Aliens
Love, love, love that movie.
1987: The Lost Boys
“The Lost Boys” wasn’t the best movie of 1987. It probably wasn’t one of the ten best, though it was pretty good. It was. however, as evocative of the time as any movie you care to name of 1987 (or 1986, or 1988.)
1988: Die Hard
This was a close one, as Beetlejuice and A Fish Called Wanda also came out that year. However, Die Hard created an entirely new genre and still influences movies today.
1989: Batman
Michael Keaton remains (IMHO) the best Bruce Wayne, and the second best Batman (after Adam West).
1990: Edward Scissorhands
1991: The Doors
I know. But I liked it.
