Movie scenes in which the actor is actually intoxicated

Martin Sheen’s Sheen-anigans during the Saigon hotel room sceen in “Apocalypse Now” wouldn’t have been the same were he not completely bombed.

I have always wondered if Tom Cruise was actually drunk during his “Galactically stupid” scene in “A Few Good Men.” Anyone know?

Steven Wright stoned in “Half Baked?”

What others?

The Beatles claimed that they were pretty stoned in some scenes from Help!, most notably when they’re skiing.

Edward Norton and Brad Pitt were supposedly pretty hammered for a scene in Fight Club. I think it’s the one where they’re hitting golf balls.

I’ve read that genuine real boo was smoked onscreen in Easy Rider, and that Jack Nicholson was thoroughly baked throughout the filming of the campfire scene.
An actor who was already stoned, playing a character who smokes his first joint on camera, and slowly gets stoned.

Are we just talking about scenes where the character is also supposed to be drunk or scenes where the character is not supposed to be drunk but the actor is?

WC Fields in pretty much all his movies.

It didn’t make the release, but Robert Shaw shot the first takes of the “four hundred men went into the water…” monologue in Jaws so drunk he couldn’t speak the lines. His justification was realism; Spielberg’s response was “Let’s just act next time.”

Robert Shaw during his infamous “SS Indianapolis” scene in Jaws.

I was going to say pretty much this.

“Who put pineapple juice in my pineapple juice?”

I didn’t necessarily NOTICE that anyone was drunk or high on camera, but I’ve heard quite a few actors admit that they were drunk or high while filming or videotaping.

Mackenzie Philips often used coke while shooting ***One Day at a Time ***and says she met fans who told her it was very noticeable.

Sid Caesar has admitted being so drunk and so high so often that there are entire movies he’s made that he has NO memory of making.

Character intoxicated, actor playing character intoxicated during filming.

I’m sure there are hundreds of examples of actors being high on something during filming.

Carrier Fisher in pretty much all of* The Star Wars Holiday Special*. But then, I think I’d have to have bourbon sloshing around the bottom of my eyeballs to appear on such a turkey.

Animal House.

Deckard’s boss in “Blade Runner,” perhaps? It’s never stated that’s he’s drunk, but he sure seems like the drink-all-afternoon detective to me. And the actor actually seems drunk.

I’ve read that Humphrey Bogart was drunk during a scene in The African Queen.

Wasn’t Martin Sheen massively drunk for the opening stumbling scene in Apocalypse Now?

Charlie Sheen in Wall Street was drunk in that one scene when his character was drunk.

(Sorry, it’s been a while, that’s all the detail I can remember. :p)

I do believe Billy Bob Thornton was drunk in Bad Santa.

Oh I don’t believe so, no. :dubious:
