Movie theaters with digital projectors-where can I find one?

I’m in the Philadelphia area and I’m looking for a movie theater with digital projectors (to see AOTC, what did you expect? :)). Where can I find such a theater?

AFAIK, there is not a single commercial “digital” progrector theatre, in the sense of showing first run Hollywood releases direct from digital masters.

OTOH, most non-chain theatres are likely are likely to have some form of video projection to get a digital signal (typically from DVD) up on the screen. Look for theatres at museums, or large college auditoriums. They have to handle a wide variety for projection formats.

I ran projectors at the National Gallery of Art in DC, which has a Sony HDTV projector (actually two of them stacked and aligned to double the brightness) in a small theatre. However, that system is analog, not digital. Go figure!

The nearest ones to Philly look to be about two hours in New Jersey, in Elizabeth or Edgewater. Or maybe Annapolis, Maryland? It’s really pretty sad.

:smack: Well, looks like my info is sadly out of date AGAIN!

This is the first time I’ve seen our new smilie used in a completely appropriate way.

If it’s any consolation, Cleophus, they’re anticipating enough theaters rolling out digital projectors so that one will probably reach PA by Ep.III.

You can always hop the Amtrak from Philly to Union Station, take the Red Line to Metro Center, get on the Orange Line train going to Vienna, and get off at the second-to-last stop at Dunn Loring. From there it’s a one-mile walk down Gallows Road to the Lee Highway Multiplex, in Fairfax, VA.

I figure your round-trip commute time will be about eight hours, not including the film. Total cost might be less than a hundred bucks.

I know it sounds silly, but hey, you might be that big of a fan.

YEA! I actually work for the company that makes these projectors! HERE is a link that has a locator as well as a full list of all movies being played on DLP.
