Movie titled "American Fiction"

Is the funniest thing I’ve seen in years. I’m humor-challenged but this made me smile a lot and laugh a few times. As a bonus there is also some legitimate criticism of modern US culture.

Yeah, I liked it. (Link to earlier discussion in Movies you’ve seen recently thread.)

Not so many movies about writing. And American Fiction is a really good one.

Hmmm. I did a search for the movie title in Cafe Society and that didn’t turn up.

I really enjoyed it when I saw it, but it was a bit of a bait and switch because it was really about this character’s inner journey more than it was about the book he wrote. From what I remember the actual book was a fairly small part of it.

As a writer, though, I did appreciate it. The acting was very good. We can all relate to the difficulty of commodifying what we actually want to write.

To be fair, that’s some pretty low hanging fruit.

I saw it again only last week, along with Late Fame starring Willem Dafoe which explored very similar themes and had a similar laconic feel. I really enjoyed both of them.

Thanks for the reminder. My wife and I really enjoyed this a couple years ago.
