The guy who has seen every movie says that it’s The Perfect Host or I’m high.
I’ve contacted Netflix support to forensically reconstruct my DVD queue between 2004 and 2009.

Netflix has told me to fuck off. The professional movie guy says: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1334553/?ref_=nv_sr_1
Which is not exactly it, but I think it’s as close to the answer as we’re going to get.
Cheers to everyone who gave it a go.

TOP. MEN. a
Don’t bogie that puppy, dude!
When Harry Met Sally?
Manhattan is an island.
Nomanisan Island.
Amadeus?
Ok, color me confused as fuck. So you are looking for a specific movie and your MAN guessed wrong but somehow his wrong was righter than our wrongs?
Close shouldnt mean shit here. Either someone correctly guesses the movie you were thinking of or they don’t.
I would really, really like to get some closure here on this matter, but the fact is that Netflix has told me that my movie queue from 2004-2010 is no more, and my best trusted movie guy has given me ‘The Perfect Host’, which is not the answer, but it’s a very good answer, and it’s as close to an authoritative answer as I reckon we’ll ever get. You should drop everything and go see that right now. I haven’t seen it, but it if the guy says it’s good, then you should see it. David Hyde Pierce as a bad guy, for the sake of fuck.
Oh my god. Nobody has mentioned The Invitation.
If anybody’s looking for me, my balls will be physically up my ass.
So that’s it? The Invitation?
OK, I’ve finally figured it out, with email documentation from Netflix and everything. No fooling around. It’s The Invitation, but probably not the one you’re thinking.
When I remembered that one of my Gmail accounts probably had my entire Netflix DVD shipping history, I found the missing clue. Turns out that The Invitation shipped on January 2, 2008.
Thing is, didn’t The Invitation release in 2015? Some of the plot and story elements felt extremely famliiar, but how could I have seen it in 2008? At this point I knew we must be dealing with a reboot/doppleganger situation. With my search thus informed, I discovered that there are in fact 2 diferent movies named The Invitation, one released in 2003, directed by Pat Bermel (the one I was looking for), and another one released in 2015, directed by Karyn Kusama. To muddy the waters even further, they’re both dinner-party psychological thrillers.
The 2015 title was apparently a much bigger deal than the 2003 title and thus washes out out the earlier title from all the Google hits.
So, for posterity, here are the links to the actual answer.
The Invitation (2003)
The pivotal scene with Lance Henriksen
Considering everything we’ve been through together on this topic, I would have expected more celebration, but I understand some of you are evidently more celebrate-on-the-inside types. I’m happy, anyway.
That’s some fine sleuthing, sir.
I successfully found a thing from my own head. More difficult and rewarding than it might seem.
Good to know at last, and kudos!
Whew!
Glad that it wasn’t “The Out of Towners”, “The Wickerman”, or “Sid and Nancy”.
Oh, one more thing, it deserved more than 2 stars in my humble opinion.
Excellent. I also liked your “2016 is killing off circa-1975-to-1990 pop stars” parody thread (starring Annie Lennox), even if others didn’t get it.
