Movies about a cop infiltrating a group of criminals

Came in to mention this one. I liked it as well.

I never saw Blue Streak w/ Martin Lawrence, but I guess it’s admirable for having a criminal infiltrate a group of cops.

One of the earlier examples of the genre: the TV series, I Led Three Lives, where Richard Carlson played Herbert Philbrick, who on the surface was a regular American, just like you or me. But underneath, he was a member of the International Communist Conspiracy working to subvert the United States. And underneath that, he was federal agent infiltrating the Communist underground. And underneath that, there was a woman yearning to be set free.

It is an improved version of the animation/rotoscope style that Linkletter used in his film Waking Life. It may be the same thing that is appearing in commercials now, but I don’t know for sure.

Of course that should be Linklater and not Linkletter.

To Live and Die in L.A., with William Petersen going undercover to bust counterfeiter Willem Dafoe.

“You say you’re from San Diego and yet you have no tan.”

It’s directed by French Connection’s Friedkin, hence the memorable car chase scene.

Stiletto Dance is awesome. It’s got the Italian Mob, the Russian Mob, The Vietnamese Mob, Chechens, titties, transvestites, cops killing cops, car bombs, beheadings, behandings(?), explosions, Yaphet Kotto is a captain and it’s in BUFFALO, of all places.

Charlie Sheen plays the crook in Shakedown, with cop D.B. Sweeney passing off as Sheen’s protege.

The best film(s) on the topic out of Hong Kong have to include John Woo’s Hard Boiled and the first two Infernal Affairs films.

The first Infernal Affairs film has been remade by Martin Scorcese. Titled The Departed, the remake stars Leonardo DiCaprio in Andy Lau’s role (of a triad mole in the police dept) and Matt Damon in Tony Leung’s role of a long term undercover officer in the triads.
