Movies or TV shows where people know the world is going to end soon

Uh, what? IMO, that’s a brilliant film. Seriously scary without being gory.

Then of course comes the reveal that they are NOT spaceship escape craft at all.

In re this thread topic: I guess there’s a sequel to Greenland out, now. Surely the characters in that have people making the psychological adjustment to the apocalyptic event (comet strikes Earth) of the first movie…?

Totally agree. Best to go in knowing nothing about it, though if you’re reading this thread I guess it’s too late.

I also like Last Night, though not as much as MM.

Take Shelter. Is Michael Shannon crazy or are his visions a warning of an apocalypse? Watch to the end to find out.

Yes.

What movie are we talking about?

I’ve been going through some of the films and tv in this thread. Many I’ve seen but I binge watched this.

It was an interesting premise, but I never considered that some people would deal with the end of the world the way so many of those people did. I literally never considered that some people would just ride out the end of the world going to pointless jobs without pay to hang onto a sense of normalcy, rather than crossing off their bucket list like most people

Unless your bucket list is mostly able to be done at home, I bet most attempts at bucket list items during an impending apocalypse end with somebody unfulfilled and stranded far from home.

I can reliably bucket list propositioning all the neighbor ladies. I can’t reliably bucket list going to see the Yangtse.

It’s not a movie, but I had to bring this up.

There’s a collection edited by Robert Sheckley entitled After the Fall that I highly recommend. It’s a collection of “upbeat end-of-the-world stories”, which is the kind of thing you’d expect Sheckley to come up with.

My favorite entry is a story by Philip Jose Farmer, “The Making of Revelation, Part 1” God enlists the aid of Cecil B. DeMille or putting together the big show that is The End of the World. De Mille, in turn, gets Harlan Ellison to write the script, because Ellison is the only writer they can find who isn’t afraid to argue with God.

Eventually, Elllison pisses god off so much that he’s fired (to Hell),

Neat. Did Ellison offer any commentary on the story?

Then they can all fly to a new planet, where they have no infrastructure, no food, no shelter, no knowledge of what can be eaten, or even if the air is safe. Helluva place to raise your kids.

Assuming the grass doesn’t try to kill you the minute you step outside.

Which ultimately doesn’t change the no food or shelter or infrastructure problem, except it does eliminate the possibility of acid grass.

Sadly, not to my knowledge. It would’ve been interesting if he had.

The last episode of Dinosaurs was apocalyptic, and kind of depressing.

”This is Howard Handupme. Goodbye.”
