My brother and I honestly tried to stifle the giggles that started early into Black Swan so we wouldn’t ruin things for other people but, after half an hour, the rest of the audience were also laughing along. I haven’t guffawed that hard at a movie in a long time. Thoroughly enjoyable. It was so completely OTT and melodramatic. I went in worried it would freak me out or be too disturbing, and left wiping up ecstatic tears.
I’d also like to nominate Stealth. It’s so vastly stupid it’s difficult to believe you’re supposed to take it at all seriously. Combine with occasional Short Circuit quotes for full enjoyment.
A friend and I giggled our way through In Time. The euphemisms for death was so cheesy and the acting was so hammy. At one supposedly dramatic scene where the girl runs towards Justin Timberlake that was a mirror to his mother’s death, someone in the audience let out an GASP I just lost it.
Oh, and when the movie was over, some girl from a row ahead of us made a comment about how deep and insightful the movie was and I lost it all over again.
I’ve never made it past the first five minutes of Showgirls.
There was an Arthurian adventure called The Last Knight that turned into a Mystery Science Theater episode for the entire audience when I saw it. I was suspicious right away, as it starts out in Camelot, with a monk named “Brother Oswald.” “Camelot” was the sobriquet of which Presidential administration…? I had to believe its faux pas and ineptitudes were deliberate, as there was no way an entire production staff could be unaware of them.
