Dark Comedy faves

List some of your favorite Dark Comdies.

Mine: Harold and Maude. Blood Simple.

Two of my seasonal favorites.

Bad Santa

The Ref

Blood Simple is a favorite of mine, but I question that it’s a dark comedy. Fargo, on the other hand, qualifies.

Heathers is also near the top of my list.

Joe vs. The Volcano.

The Cable Guy.

Dr. Strangelove

Pump Up The Volume

God Bless America

Shakes the Clown

World’s Greatest Dad

How To Get Ahead In Advertising

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

and of course What We Do In The Shadows

Dark Star is my favorite dark comedy of all time.
Eating Raoul
The Trouble With Harry
I can’t remember the name of the movie but it’s about a guy carrying around 8 heads in a bag.

I’ve never heard anyone else mention this, but I’m convinced Death Note is a dark comedy.

Conveniently named… 8 Heads In a Duffelbag

Seven Psychopaths
Shallow Grave
And…+1 Harold and Maude

Ravenous

Miss Nobody. A 2010 black comedy starring Leslie Bibb. Absolutely hilarious. Very well done. Yet no one knows about it.

Bought the DVD, and have probably watched it at least six times.

Another vote that Blood Simple is not remotely a comedy. Very tense drama.

IMDb lists its genres as “Crime, Drama, Thriller.”

Checking other Coen films I counted four that are listed as “Comedy, Drama …” with Barton Fink probably the grittiest listed as “Comedy, Drama, Thriller.” So there are better options in their universe.

Best film made on that sort of budget, also.

Black Adder Goes Forth.

Throw Mama From the Train and War of the Roses. Death Becomes Her is up there too.

Death to Smoochy. Probably a little dated now, but it was great when Barney was the most popular kiddie show on TV.

The Loved One

In some ways, American Dad is rather dark.

I enjoyed the British black comedy Nighty Night.

Got to say I watched Ravenous for the first time a few weeks back and didn’t think much of it.
