I was unable to finish Monster’s Ball. The execution sequence made me physically ill, and the sex, and then various unexpected plot twists. And I had stopped the film and run it back to the video rental place within an hour. Just . . . ugh.
20th Century History students at my school are required to watch Schindler’s List while studying WWII. Before we watched the film, my teacher said that “if anyone felt themselves falling asleep” to go out into the hallway and get a drink of water. I was never anywhere near falling asleep. Very well-made film, but I was sobbing through most of it.
