Authors to take books from to be made into movies are an unending list. Piers Anthony (Ox, Bio of a Space Tyrant), Philip Jose Farmer (Riverworld), Katherine Kurtz (the Deryni series), but that’s all too easy.
I’d love to see a good disaster movie which is realistic. And not filled with schmaltzy stereotypical scenes. Something that is not ‘safe.’ And it should start well before the disaster and end well after. I don’t think we’ve had one of those yet. They either climax with the disaster or start years after.
The Chinese aren’t quite what the Soviets were yet but I’d really enjoy a good spy movie like those old ones.
I’d like to see a really good historical romance. Maybe a Roman soldier courts a Pictish lady while on station at Hadrian’s wall. I enjoy romance but to really be enthralled I really need to be taken somewhere.
They could set an action adventure movie far in the future. Say the year 10,000. Set in a time when lawlessness has broken out. Pirates about. Money works the cogs. And we’d have a young man with a map to a treasure.
This is going to sound retarded mixed in with all the serious sci-fi, but I’ve always wanted to see Mary Renault onscreen. The Persian Boy is an epic just waiting to happen, The Last of the Wine would make a fantastic drama, and The King Must Die/The Bull From the Sea deserves a six-part miniseries on Masterpiece Theater. Great writing, and can only be translated to screen properly if you leave in all the nudity. 
But, please, use only genuine Interocitor parts!
