The BBC miniseries is classic, but I’d still like to see a big-screen adaptation of The Hitchiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. Which has never yet been done. Never, do you hear me?! sob NEVER!
I had almost given up hope on the Tintin movie (based on the famous Belgian comic book), but if you believe the L.A. Times, it might actually appear some day!

Yvonne Villarreal interviews Garrett Warren
The film of Atlas Shrugged seems to have been talked of for a long time.
Which of them played her?
Well, Dalton does have those dreamy blue eyes that you can swim in…
Joanne Whalley starred as Scarlett. I didn’t mention her because she has a “who is that” factor compared to Dalton and Bean.
Rendezvous With Rama - I think there was a fake teaser made several years ago and I remember some buzz about Morgan Freeman being attached to a film version, but it seems to have stalled.
**Ender’s Game **- been talked about for years. Supposedly it is still going to happen.
Another never made often talked about sequel just came to mind… “Abel Cain”, the sequel to “El Topo”. I’ve heard Alejandro Jodorowsky repeatedly stating that he’s making the movie but needs funding since the early 1990s. He even had Marilyn Manson attached to it.
Alejandro Jodorowsky was also suppose to make “Dune” in the mid-1970s. He claimed that Pink Floyd was to do the soundtrack while the movie had an all-star cast consisting of with Salvador Dali, Orson Welles, Gloria Swanson, David Carradine, Geraldine Chaplin, Alain Delon, Hervé Villechaize and Mick Jagger.
Are we ever gonna get the Metroid and Castlevania movies? And I mean REAL Castlevania, not that Van Helsing crap.
Well, apart fromthis one.
Hippie Hippie Shake starring Sienna Miller has been in production for over ten years. IMDB says it’s going to be released this year. I’ll believe it when I see it.
Christopher Lee was supposed to be in The Last Unicorn live-remake also. He looks about right for the part now!
My nominees-
FRANKENSTEIN from the creature’s POV starring Arnold Schwarzenegger
DRACULA starring Mick Fleetwood and directed by Ken Russell (I almost typed Kurt!)
Oliver Stone’s PLANET OF THE APES starring Arnold Schwarzenegger in which ape domination comes about via a code discovered in The Bible
FAHRENHEIT 451 directed by & starring Mel Gibson
BILL & TED III- Alex Winter has supposedly written the script
Coppola’s THE VAN HELSING CHRONICLES starring Anthony Hopkins
John Huston’s THE MAN WHO WOULD BE KING starring Humphrey Bogart and Clark Gable- I assume respectively as Daniel Dravot and Peachy Carmichael
ATLAS SHRUGGED the 1970’s version (starring perhaps Raquel Welch or Farrah Fawcett or Faye Dunaway and Clint Eastwood), the NBC early 80’s mini-series,
the TNT 90’s mini-series, the Randall Wallace-written/truncated movie starring Angelina Jolie, the now-discussed rewrite/expansion movie/trilogy/TV-miniseries now reportedly pondered by Charlize Theron and Anne Hathaway.
and in the world of Kim Newman’s ANNO DRACULA-
Coppola’s DRACULA starring Martin Sheen as Jonathan Harker, Robert Duvall as Van Helsing, Dennis Hopper as Renfield, and Marlon Brando as Dracula.
I agree. There was some talk recently about Will Ferrell being in a stage version or something as preparation for a movie, which would be abominable: he can’t act, he’s not funny, he neither looks nor acts the part, and the movie has nothing to do with sports, so I’m not sure why he is interested. Apparently there was talk of John Goodman playing Ignatius a long time ago. If the movie had been made before 1990 it would have been great casting.
I’d still like to see I, Robot made using Harlan Ellison’s script (which Asimov approved). Now that they have CGI, they could do a beautiful job.
The first time I mentioned this, someone chimed in that it would be a terrible movie. After seeing the Will Smith film, I have to say, “No way”
Agreeing with the Lost Buckaroo Banzai move, of course…
I’ve been reading John Huston’s autobiography. He’d planned to film The Man Who Would Be King several times; Bogart & Gable were his initial stars. But he was quite satisfied with the version he completed–starring Sean Connery & Michael Caine. (As am I.)
Mark Frost’s The List of Seven was a fantastically good ripping yarn. He followed it with The Six Messiahs–not quite as excellent but still good. (Alas, he’s now writing golf books.) An unattributed article here confirms a rumor I remember:
Robert Graves’ Homer’s Daughter is one of his amazing historical/legendary novels. During Ingrid Bergman’s exile from Hollywood, a movie was planned with her in the title role–shot by the wine-dark sea. But Hollywood decided to forgive her anyway & plans fell through. (No, I’m not old enough to remember this–but I read about it.)
Starship Troopers was made, many people did not like it.
Missed the edit.
Huston’s first attempt at the film was foiled by Bogart’s death. Later, he planned to use Gable & a co-star to be named; then Gable died. Years later, he approached Paul Newman & combined several of the screenplays already written.
From An Open Book.
(Yes, I know Connery is no Englishman. Huston did, too. But he didn’t let little details get in the way of a good story.)
Mos Def as Burma Jones?
My old copy of Stephen King’s **The Talisman **says on the cover: “Soon to be a major motion picture”.
Still waiting…!
Among the movies I’ve read/heard were in the works, the following never happened:
-
Howard Stern’s “Adventures of Fartman”
-
The Coen Brothers were supposed to be making a semi-sequel to “the Big Lebowksi,” one that was supposed to concentrate on “Dee Jeezus” (John Turturro).
-
For decades, Sylvester Stallone was supposed to be making a serious film about Edgar Allan Poe.
Well a musical of that *is *opening on Broadway this year, so I’m sure if it’s a success you won’t have to wait long for a film adaptation to be made.
You had me till Stallone.
