I don’t know if it would have been any good, but I read several times over the years that John Hughes was planning to make a movie about the adult Ferris Bueller.
Wasn’t Anne Rice’s “The Mummy” supposed to be made by James Cameron? Starring Arnold Schwartzenager?
Still no one thinking of the one I’m thinking of. It was announced in 2005 with a modicum of fanfare.
The Killer Tomatoes Do France.
Was it Stephen Spielberg who was rumored to be considering a film about the Israeli Air Force in 1947?
??
They did do that one. Am I being whooshed?
Oh my, no. I thought it was a joke like History of the World, Part II.
Thanks!
Have we gotten this far w/o the First Church of Joss Whedon mentioning the long-labored Wonder Woman project? Wonder Woman - Wikipedia
Also there’s always been rumblings of a Freddie Mercury biopic (with stories “linking” either Johnny Depp or Sacha Baron Cohen to the lead role). In the same vein, the Keith Moon biopic staring Mike Myers (Untitled Keith Moon Project - IMDb) seems to keep getting pushed back.
An interesting side note, they asked Michael Crichton once if he’d ever be involved in a remake of Westworld. He said “I was already. It was called Jurassic Park.”
I assume you’re speaking of Kevin Smith’s Green Hornet project? That would’ve been awesome.
Apparently, they’re still working on a Green Hornet film, but there have been substantial changes to the cast and crew… not holding my breath for that one to ever come out (or for it to be any good if they actually do ever get their act together).
I did see photos of Rogan as the Green Hornet a couple months ago.
There is also a website: THE GREEN HORNET | Sony Pictures Entertainment
I think it’s coming.
For me, the holy grail of film would have been the Jodorowski version of Dune. Pink Floyd, Dali, Giger…holy crap that would have been awesome.
When I was working in a movie theater, we’d occasionally get little pamphlets listing movies that were supposed to be coming soon from distributors. One title listed was Spaceballs 3: In Search Of 2.
This is what I was going to say - too bad - Brad Renfro as a kid was exactly what I had pictured for Travellin’ Jack…
Nope, try again.
Sounds to me like it would have been a godawful mess. So do most of the other failed versions, one of which had Paul having an incestuous relationship with Jessica.
For better or for worse, I pretty much like both the Lynch version of Dune, the cobbled-together TV version of the same, and the Sci Fi TV version. I think they’re closer to the novel than anyone else would have made the film.
Looks like you might be right… Michel Gondry’s IMDB page not only shows The Green Hornet as an active project, but it’s also labelled as being in post-production. Guess we might see a Green Hornet before the year is over.
However, given that Kevin Smith isn’t credited as a writer, we can probably assume this is a VERY different movie than the one we might’ve seen if he’d had his way 5 years ago.
There’s supposed to be a live action film of Mandrake the Magician, it was initially to film sometime in late 2008 or early 2009 but it’s been repeatedly pushed back. Jonathan Rhys Meyers was meant to star, he’s apparently been replaced by Hayden Christensen. I don’t know that it’ll ever actually come to fruition, though.
Recently they were going to make a movie about Billy Beane and his book Moneyball, starring Brad Pitt. It was going to also star lots of major leaguers in minor roles.
But it fell through, due to either <a>the system beginning to prove unsuccessful by the A’s in recent years, or <b> a terrible script rewrite by Soderbergh. I can’t tell which blogs I’ve found are correct.
So give us a hint. Biopic? Superhero flick? Adaptation of a beloved novel?
The sequel to Dances with Wolves. The Holy Road was supposedly in production at one point (and rumor had it that Costner was considering acting in it, even though his character did not feature as prominently and he wasn’t interested in directing it)
It’s a shame, too, that it never happened. It was a really good book.
It was optioned to Universal 3 years ago, with the Weitz brothers associated with it, until the Golden Compass tanked along with their reputations. So not only do we not get any more GC films, anything w/ Elric is now firmly ensconsced in Development Hell (at best). Latest over at Michael Moorcock’s forum is that it indeed is in limbo.
