Several of mine have already been mentioned, so here’s a new one.
The movie, Reign of Fire. I really should have loved this movie…I mean come on, Dragons taking over the planet! Not to mention a few actors that I find to be very, very hot. I was so bored I fell asleep about a half hour into it.
Oh, that’s a good one -except I rolled my eyes and changed the channel about 5 minutes into it. I generally love stupid movies, but that one was a whole new level of dumb.
Pan’s Labrynth is nothing, yet nothing, like The Triplets of Belleville. I think they’re both wonderful movies, but seriously. Absolutely nothing in common whatsoever.
For one thing, there is absolutely and utterly nothing funny in Pan’s Labrynth.
Borat – People keep talking about this intelligent, satirical and hilarious film that exposes and lampoons American culture but the film I saw was boring, predictable and was shut off a third of the way through.
The Departed. I really, really thought I would like it a lot more than I did. But I couldn’t wait for it to be over, and I couldn’t even tell you any of the characters’ names now or what they were up to.
I expect to dislike most of the stuff I end up not liking but, there’s the LOTR series, weird because I generally quest for movies with fantastical elements (and quests) and I love world building and attention to detail, and of course it’s supposed to be the pinnacle of detailed built world driven fantasy. But I was totally bored with all 3 movies. So bored that even now I haven’t gotten around to reading the books. I’ve never admitted it in person. Serenity bored the hell out of me too, though it came highly reccommended (but I don’t like Joss Whedon’s other work, so that makes more sense). Actually, I haven’t liked a sci-fi based show since Star Trek: TNG, even though I’m almost desperate to find one.
Second on liking Twin Peaks but not nearly as much as I thought I would.
Entourage. I thought there would be something unique about it for all the buzz it got but I didn’t see it. I didn’t dislike it but I didn’t see the reason for the raves. I also love gossip and celebrity-type stuff which made me think I’d love it. To be fair I only saw two eps during a free trial of HBO et al (where I did understand the praise given to The Sopranos).
Babylon 5. I keep hearing about the epic storyline and meticulous plotting, and while I can appreciate that in a sort of abstract sense, it was just too hokey and predictable for me to continue watching.
**Arrested Development **- I found the characters too unlikable to watch past the pilot.
Freaks & Geeks - I was so bored I realized about halfway through the pilot that I really didn’t even care to find out what happened next and shut it off.
