Ever since getting hooked on the CBS version of Showtime’s Dexter I’ve realized what a good actor Michael C. Hall is. It’s hard to think of him as the same guy who was the gay and uptight David on Six Feet Under. Remarkable actor, but not quite enough for me to miss SFU all that much.
I believe Deadwood works for me, and I can’t fathom why HBO dumped it, and I’m even more weirded out by their using Milch for the dreadful John From Cincinnati.
The one I miss but understand why it had to go is, of course, The Sopranos.
Others I miss, but don’t really wish they’d bring back include:
The West Wing
Rome
Six Degrees (barely got off the ground before being axed)
Kidnapped (ditto)
Arrested Development and Firefly. I didn’t even know these shows existed until they had already been canceled, which I can never forgive Fox for. I watched Fox for a couple of hours every week at the least, and I never saw one ad for either show.
I miss Angel every single day of my life. I’m reading the comics now, but minor spoiler for issue 5
when the T-rex fought Angel’s dragon I realized the comics were nothing but sophisticated fanfic with pretty pictures, and I miss my dead, gay show even more.
Another vote for Dead Like Me. I’m currently working through the DVDs, but I’m still mad it got cancelled after just two seasons.
From my childhood, Gargoyles and Sailor Moon. The latter moreso because it’s nearly impossible to find it on DVD as it’s out of print. I was only able to get the first season, and trying to find a legit copy on eBay is like trying to find a needle in a stack of iron filings.
MST3K
Farscape
Futurama (the original 4 seasons)
three undeservedly cancelled shows, at least I have the complete series of Futurama and Farscape on DVD
I’d watch more Rome and Carnivale but I don’t know about Deadwood. I know that comparing it to The Wire is apples and oranges, but I can’t help it. I think Milch favored convoluted dialogue and plots for the sake of being convoluted – being straightforward wasn’t “artistic” enough.
I’d watch more Kidnapped too, and Raines, Jeff Goldblum’s short-lived series.
Firefly, Freaks and Geeks, Arrested Development. So much untapped potential, especially in the former two.
And although I think Frasier overstayed it’s welcome, it’d be nice if they could erase it from everyones memory so we could do it all over again from the beginning.
Homicide: Life on the Streets
Sunday Night (Music show hosted by David Sanborn)
Tomorrow with Tom Snyder
NBC Mystery Movie (McCloud, McMillan $ Wife, Columbo in rotation)
The Magician (Bill Bixby)
”Wonderfalls“ for sure. I miss the potential that it had.
”Arrested Development“.
”The Golden Girls“. I still wish that I had my Saturday night GG fix.
”Buffy“ and ”Angel“. I have yet to read the comics.
There are many others, but those are the only ones that I can think of, just off of the top of my head. I’ve seen ”Dead Like Me“ recommended so many times here, that I might have to check it out.
I thought it was poorly acted, boring, whiney, and the premise didn’t really make sense. I really wanted to like so I kept giving it more chances but I couldn’t make it past about the 4th episode. I didn’t know it was cancelled until this thread but I’m not the least bit surprised.
