Movies where someone helps a community (PG)

Seven Samuri/The Magnificent Seven
Batteries not Included
Superman
Fritz Lange’s “M”, the criminals all band together to find a child killer and put him on trial. Of course they only do this because the extra police out to find the child killer are making their own criminal endevours harder.

Mr. Smith Goes to Washington

Yeah, but some parents will ASSume that I have given them a “safe” list. I would prefer to not face psycho parent who thinks that the merit badge teacher has encouraged their kid to watch female masturbation… (She should hear her kid on campouts when I listen in on the kids in their tents).

The list on the website stinks (hence my request to the Dope for help). The Passion of the Christ as a movie about getting involved with a local community?

Sister Act - She gets the nuns to start going out into the neighborhood and make it better rather than hiding in the convent.

Allrighty then.

Seeing Schindler’s List there makes me think of Jakob the Liar.

I guess Stephen King’s IT or The Stand are out.

The Stand would probably be out, yes. IT, being a TV miniseries, was nowhere near as graphic as the book so it’s a possible.

What about To Kill A Mockingbird?

A Bug’s Life. One ant convinces the rest of the ants to stand up to the grasshoppers, who have been forcing them to collect food for them for the winter.

You would be much cooler if that link had led me to Red Dawn.

Ernest Saves His Community?
On a more serious note… Hard Ball?

My son’s scout troop uses Coach Carter, even though it’s rated PG-13. I haven’t watched it myself, so I have no comment.

My only problem with Hoot would be the support of eco-terrorism. (Does every Carl Hiaasen book have eco-terrorism? ) After seeing Hoot I tried explaining to my son Dweezil that vandalism is illegal, no matter how cute the owls were. No dice. Otherwise, Hoot is good. No sex - even implied. Very little bad language - if any. Good guys (and owls) win.

What about Hotel Rwanda? I haven’t seen it, and I’m sure it’s pretty heavy going, but the guy did save a lot of lives.

One of my personal favorites the Milagro Beanfield War.

No, the community is pretty much in the wrong on that one.

Local Hero seconded!

How about In the Heat of the Night?

Hmm…guess not.

Reluctant sheriff cleaning up the town: Dodge City and Support Your Local Sheriff!

The 10th Kingdom: an ordinary handyman (John Larroquette) and his daughter (Kimberly Williams) get caught up in political intrigue in a land where fairytales are reality.

These are great (I am compiling a list). Many thanks (and keep them coming).

The First Travelling Saleslady: a comic look at women (Ginger Rogers & Carol Channing) trying to get Texan cowboys to fence in their cattle.

How about High Noon?

One person helping a comunity, a comunity of douchebags!
