Movies where the main character doesn't survive? (unboxed SPOILERS)

A few off the top of my head are:

“They Live” Roddy Piper gets mowed down by a helicopter and with his dying breath flips off the bad guys.

“Braveheart” Mel Gibson gets disembowled before the end.

“Saving Private Ryan” Tom Hanks dies of his wounds at the end.

Of course any movie where the main character has a disease. “My Life” “Life as a House”, etc.

What are some others?

I’d say “The Untouchables” but I can’t remember if Sean Connery’s character was the main character.

Beneath the Planet of the Apes

Alien 3

Resevior Dogs(assuming that Mr. Pink wasn’t the main character)

Life is Beatiful

Most Romeo and Juliet adaptations

Godfather 3

Donnie Darko

12 Monkeys

Any GOOD version of Les Miserables

Citizen Kane

Scarface(both versions).

Here are a few I can think of:

In “Pitch Black” the female pilot gets it
Kevin Spacey in “American Beauty”
Kevin Spacey in “Se7en”
Most the cast in “Deep Impact”
Bruce Willis in “Armageddon”
Marlon Brando in “God Father I”
Al Pacino in “Carlito’s Way”
Russel Crowe in “Gladiator”
Jean Reno in “The Professional (Leon)”
George Clooney in “The Perfect Storm”
Leonardo Decaprio in “The Titanic”
Al Pacino in “Scar Face”
You can assume Tim Roth died at the end of “Reservoir Dogs”
John Travolta in “Pulp Fiction”
Arnold Schwarzenegger in “Terminator I and 2” (haven’t seen 3)

How’s that?

MtM

I don’t think your spoiler warning can be in any way effective.

There’s no way to know which movies will be discussed until you see a title and -bam! - too late!

Outta here. Eyes closed. I’m not reading! I’m not reading! La-la-la-la-la-la!

Passion of the Christ

The Wicker Man

Thelma and Louise in “Thelma and Louise”
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid in “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid”
Jesus Christ in “The Passion of the Christ”

Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia (Warren Oates)

The Wild Bunch ( William Holden, Warren Oates, Ben Johnson, Ernest Borginine, Jaime Sanchez, and Edmond O’Brien )

Treasure of the Sierra Madre (Humphrey Bogart)

Old Yeller.

This movie is so good, I wouldn’t want to spoil it for anyone inadvertantly. But nobody has mentioned it yet.

The movie: Angel Heart

The character: Harry Angel (Mickey Rourke)

Charlie Brown bought it in the little-known Charlie Brown’s School Shoot-up

(Sorry… I’m just a sick bastard…)

Night of the Living Dead

The Cowboys

Okay, okay, a little more serious…

Quills: The Marquis chokes on Christ…

The Sadist: Arch Hall, Jr. buys it, much to our delight.

I wonder about the original Alien. I’m pretty sure Ripley wasn’t the main character, but I’m having trouble coming up with one. Maybe Tom Skerritt’s character? (I know I must have butchered the spelling on his name.)

The Shootist

Philadelphia

Terms of Endearment

But Leaving Las Vegas clearly fits the profile.

There is no way that Kevin Spacey was the main character in Se7en. That would be like saying Buffalo Bob was the main character in Silence of the Lambs.

Damn you, Spoke! And you even got The Cowboys, which was my second answer!

Oh well, I’m thankful there’s another John Wayne fan out there.

OOH! How about The Alamo?

Bambi vs. Godzilla

Old Yeller dies? Damn. He was the best doggone dog in the West.
