Movies with/about Heroin addiction?

OK, so talking with a couple of friends about the opiate epidemic and their own encounters with street addicts (they work on city street infrastructure projects and some of the zones they work are a tad dicey). The subject of Heroin abuse in movies came up and I couldn’t really think of too many movies that cover it. We came up with:

Trainspotting
The Panic in Needle Park
A Hero Ain’t Nothing But a Sandwich
The Man with the Golden Arm

and arguably: Sid & Nancy

There’s a lot of movies involving coke abuse, and meth probably is getting a lot of notice, but this list seemed a bit thin. Which movies did we miss?

Requiem for a Dream?

Ray

Drugstore Cowboy.

The Basketball Diaries
Gia
Lady Sings The Blues

The Fighter

Less Than Zero

Rush, 1991.

A Hatful of Rain - 1957

Naked Lunch – Although the protagonist is shown to be an all-purpose junkie addicted to whatever type of opiate he can get his hands on, including bug spray, it IS about William S. Burroughs, so heroin is definitely in there.

This.

More (1969)
Monkey on my Back
Stakeout on Dope Street
The Connection (1961)
Dusty and Sweets McGee
Lenny
H (1990)
High Art

Little Fish, a relatively unknown but good Australian film, starring the inimitable Cate Blanchett.

It’s actually about a former addict and her troubles kicking the habit, as well as the crime scene associated with it.

Excellent, but you could make a mini-festival by pairing it with two other Australian movies:

Monkey Grip

Pure S (sometimes as Pure Shit)

Gridlock’d

Tim Roth and Tupac Shakur

Not about heroin per sey , but Bad Lieutenant had one of the most realistic scenes of shooting up ever.

Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead
Killing Them Softly

I can’t remember exactly what substances were being abused, but I know there were pills and I think maybe some heroin use in Dead Ringers.

Christiane F. is an old (1981) movie about the Berlin drug scene.

And Mr. Robot, while a TV show, does have a main character (the main character) who is a heroin addict and yes, they’ve shown him using the drug.

Candy (2006).

Pulp Fiction
Tideland
