Wasn’t Ronnie gov of California by that time? They probably already talked about him becoming President.
In 1965, Tom Lehrer made a reference to Reagan in politics as he joked about song-and-dance man George Murphy entering congress.
We’ll know in 10 years whether or not that happens.
Reagan was elected governor of California in 1966. He was becoming increasingly involved in politics in the early 1960s, so it’s not unusual to see him mentioned in these terms in a 1967 movie or a 1965 Tom Lehrer song.
Not really, since the Cubs and Marlins are both in the National League, making it very difficult for them to play each other in the World Series.
Of course if the Marlins leave (as they are threatening to do over a stadium subsidy dispute with Miami) and, say, the Devil Rays move across the state to Miami and change their designation to “Miami” instead of “Florida”… It could happen…
I was watching Demolition Man last night (hey, it has Benjamin Bratt in it, so there) and I was tickled at some of the references they made that today seem almost pre-cognitive.
Of course, they made reference to the Schwarzenegger Presidential Library years before Arnold became governor, and mentioned the Constitutional Amendment that allowed him to run for president even though he wasn’t born in this country. Interestingly enough, Orrin Hatch introduced such an amendment.
Ahnold was quite open about being interested in going into politics from a very early time, and it was evident that he had the intelligence and charisma to have a good shot at being successful. While there certainly was never a guarantee, this doesn’t strike me as a coincidence so much as a fun extrapolation of then (and now) current trends.

I remember reading a little bio of him in the late 80’s or early 90’s that mentioned his political ambitions.
