Rocky Horror Picture Show has a dinner gong, too.
Revenge of the Nerds - at the big show at the end, the Asian guy is dressed up like a Native American, for some reason, and banging a gong.
Star Wars, Episode One. Jabba the Hutt bites the head off a small creature and spits it at a gong to start the pod race.
And now I’ve got T. Rex stuck in my head.
Johnny English Reborn, at the beginning and middle of the trailer
I was going to say “every Fu Manchu movie ever made,” before I realized the only Fu Manchu movie I’ve seen is Mask.. Because Boris.
It’s certainly possible, even likely that others do, as well. But the only other Fu Manchu movie I’ve seen besides Mask is the so-awful-they-did-it-on-MST3K Castle of Fu Manchu, and I don’t recall a gong in that one.
Enter The Dragon had a scene with a gong when Han makes his grand entrance to the feast. Sorry, couldn’t find a link.
Didn’t the obnoxious sports guy from Fraiser have a gong?
Bob “Bulldog” Briscoe.
how did I miss it?:smack:
My contribution to the thread will be Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind. Said gong is, of course, The Gong Show gong.
Robot Arm, you know that if you make a video, we all want to see it.
I wasn’t planning to, but if I go stir crazy in the next few months, who knows.
I work for a software/robotics company. Last summer, someone bought a gong for the office, and whenever one of the squads approved a new software release, they would ring the gong. As the QA person on my team, I often had the pleasure.
Well, we’re all working from home now. I almost brought the gong home with me, but didn’t. However, I do want to keep the tradition alive, so I thought that I would share links to gong-ringing scenes in movies whenever a new release is ready. My thanks to everyone for their contributions. I’m good for a few months, at least.
It’s a good company to work for. They’re doing a lot to support everyone working from home, and to keep us all engaged.
I just finished watching the David Lynch version of Dune (1984). At one point Jack Nance, as the Harkonnen named Nefud, bangs an odd rectangular gong:
That is sweet. Thanks for the explanation.
Someone tell me if I’m remembering correctly … Wasn’t there also a gong in the Star Trek movie The Voyage Home ?
The usual gang of suspects is stuck on Vulcan with the Klingon ship they hijacked, and they visit a Vulcan mystic guru to have Spock’s mind re-implanted in his zombie body. Didn’t their audience with the guru begin with a gong?
They used a gong at the end of this, of course. Video of someone whacking it, though…? The Moody Blues - Nights in White Satin - YouTube
Permit me to stand self-corrected. Having just reviewed the movie synopses on Wikipedia, it seems this scene was not in The Voyage Home but rather in ST III: The Search For Spock, toward the end.
