Movies with WTF?!? moments you still can't figure out

The space aliens scene in “Life of Brian”.

The joke there is that it is totally inconsequential to the plot. Not a very funny joke, to be sure, but a joke nonetheless.

Stantz getting an invisible blowjob in Ghostbusters. (Apparently it was part of a scrapped subplot, and Dan Aykroyd somehow convinced the filmmakers to keep that one scene in the film.)

I laughed my ass off when I first saw it. In my view, it was a jab at the Star Wars obsession which was just, you might say, “taking off” at the time.

You think that’s WTF now, I was trying to figure it out when I was seven.

I know I’m going to catch hell for this, but the whole “I drink your milkshake” scene was very WTF to me. And still is.

No judgment!

I’m not sure if you mean the metaphor was WTF or you didn’t understand what was happening.

He was using the straw as a metaphor for how he sucked up the other guy’s oil right up from under his nose. I don’t remember exactly how he did it.

As for the murder, I found a great article in the Atlantic to illustrate that point. He was so filthy rich he was no longer accountable for anything he did. Nothing mattered any more. (I’m having trouble finding the article because it wasn’t about the film, it was about attending a Jeff Bezos event and realizing how removed from reality he was.)

I loved that movie.

“Everything Everywhere All At Once” was a WTF moment in every frame.

The moment when the viewer is expected to realize the last 15–20 minutes was just a dream sure had me going “WTF???”

And what movie might you be discussing?

I’m not the participant who brought it up, but it’s There Will Be Blood

Thanks for posting;I’d forgotten how riveting that scene is.

There is that, but my pet theory is that it was a funny reference to the also WTF theory that “Jesus was an alien”. I would not be surprised if a few of the Pythons, when they were young, did see the founder of the Aetherius Society interviewed in the BBC Lifeline broadcast of May 21, 1959.

Jesus Was an Alien
Inside the strange theology of the Aetherius Society

In 1954, a London cabbie named George King received a telepathic communication from an extraterrestrial intelligence named Master Aetherius: “Prepare yourself! You are to become the voice of Interplanetary Parliament.” This message, delivered from the planet Venus, was the first of hundreds of similar communications King allegedly received over his lifetime — some telepathically, some while in a trance. In 1955, King’s experiences inspired him to found the Aetherius Society, a religious group “dedicated to spreading, and acting upon, the teachings of advanced extraterrestrial intelligences.”

I’ve never wanted to discuss my puzzlement, for fear of being called dense, but I still don’t know why there’s a picture of Jack Nicholson’s character in that old group photo on the wall at the end of The Shining.

Once again, wtf moments, not wtf movies.
