I’m not sure I’d say I love the movie, since it’s such a harrowing experience, but the music in Requiem for a Dream is fundamental to the power of the film.
No love for Saturday Night Fever? From the opening strains of “Stayin’ Alive” as John Travolta walks down the street with his paint can, chewing a slice of pizza to the subway ride with “How Deep Is Your Love?” “Manhattan Skyline,” “Night on Disco Mountain,” “Disco Inferno”. I believe the soundtrack was the biggest selling album of all time until it was beaten by Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” just a few years later. Love disco or hate it, it captured the essence of the late 70s with all of its excesses.
I like almost everything by Daft Punk so loved Tron Legacy’s soundtrack.
I watched Only Lovers Left Alive this week and thought the soundtrack on that was excellent.
“O Lucky Man” – Alan Price songs as commentary, bright bouncy tunes about terrible things
“Chariots of Fire” – the music became a cliche, but, at the time, it was outstanding.
“Truly Madly Deeply”
Greece?
“Triplets of Belleville” - a French cartoon that I think was an Oscar winner. Saw this quite a few years ago, but I still remember the music
Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Carribean is another one that I enjoy.
