Movies you've seen recently (Part 2)

I vaguely remember that. Doesn’t the title refer to people getting thrown out of a plane?

In the beginning of the movie, Nick Nolte throws a guy off a cliff, which he calls Mulholland FALLS.

If anyone gets thrown out of a plane at some point, we didn’t make it that far.

I’ve never seen the Aquaman movies, but was scrolling HBO and saw it was the last 15 minutes of a sequel, so I tuned in to watch whatever awesome CGI-laden battle was taking place.

Instead, spoiler alert, I got Jason Momoa addressing the UN with a message of hope. No battle. I didn’t bother looking, but I’m guessing the reviews were really negative.

I guess this should go into the “movies you haven’t seen recently” thread.

I watched the final Indiana Jones movie. I’d forgotten that it was even made and stumbled across it on Prime. It actually wasn’t bad.

Chilly rainy day, so we stayed in and watched The Menu.

I’d give it 4 stars. Not very realistic, but good acting and an interesting, if bizarre, story.

I Know What You Did Last Summer 1997
Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar
Ryan Phillippe, Freddie Prinze Jr.

I never saw it when it came out. I enjoyed the suspense as the fisherman stalks the 4 teens. Their own feelings of guilt makes it even better.

Then the payoff at the end with the hook killings was done well.

The climatic fight scene with the fisherman to save his gf was predictable. But it was a satisfying conclusion to the story.

I throughly enjoyed the movie and highly recommend it to horror fans.

It was odd seeing Sarah Michelle Gellar stalked in a slasher film. I can’t get seven seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer out of my head.

Last night I watched Babygirl on Max. It was released in 2024, starring Nicole Kidman.

A decent premise, but not a good movie. I was mostly bored, but watched it all, hoping that something would happen. Never did.

Would not recommend.

Please comment about “Sinners”. My SiL saw it and described it to me. It sounded really weird, but she thought it was really great. Both perhaps, or perhaps the former caused it to be the latter? I’m curious.

Watched a fairly obscure movie called Land of Mine. It’s a foreign film, in German and Dutch with subtitles, about the land mine removal effort after WWII. German POWs were forced to disarm over a million land mines on the beaches of the Netherlands, with heavy casualties. It was nominated for best foreign film. Recommended.

Raymond & Ray (AppleTV, 2022) Got 48%,57% on RT in what I felt was a gross injustice. It was good, not as funny as the trailer would have you believe but it was heartfelt and impactful. I saw this on Friday night and I am still thinking about what happened and what I would do in the same situation. Recommended for those with complicated relationships with their father.

Know it has been heavily covered already, but the first movie I’ve seen in a theater since Avengers: Endgame was Thunderbolts and…it was not bad. Not having seen some of the TV shows and other films I may have missed a few things, but it had the right mixture of comedy and tragedy for me, albeit I didn’t fully buy into the Big Bad at the end. And Julia Louis-Dreyfus could win the Oscar for best scenery-chewing this year, she was the focus of every scene she was in. And the end-credit sneak peek was intriguing, especially when combined with a certain Coming Attractions clip at the start.

Not quite up to the Avengers Cycle, but we’ll see how it develops.

Dedicated thread for Sinners, fairly full of spoilers tho. My (very positive) opinion, without spoilers, in this post.

Not that obscure, II’ve seen it and it was Denmark,

I just watched Guardians of the galaxy 3. Meh, or maybe meh+.

And the soundtrack? Both prior soundtracks were so good I bought them- but this one rates a meh-.

Mulholland Falls pisses me off because when I’m scrolling the channels I always think it’s MD for an excited nanosecond. I like MF well enough yes, someone does get thrown out of a planebut it ain’t no MD.

They are making a new one that’s coming out this year. I saw the trailer.

I Know What You Did Last Millennium?

Might be good if Jennifer Love Hewitt is in it. I’ve heard the 2nd movie was panned.

Spoilers for the trailer: Freddie Prinz Jr and Jennifer Love Hewitt are both in it.

To me if it’s in the trailer it’s fair game but I know some people don’t feel that way.

Huh. Don’t know where I got the idea it was Holland. Brain fart, I guess.
