Movies you've seen recently (Part 2)

As recommended, I just saw Sinners, without any spoilers. Really enjoyed it, though that type of thing is not something I usually enjoy.

Not really, no. It’s intense, though. I recommend it.

Haven’t seen the movie but doesn’t it prominently feature a beheading?

I’d consider that gore.

Next day and I’m still thinking about how good Sinners is. I’m not sure I would call it horror as opposed to a thriller, but it’s definitely in my top-ten those kind of movies. Lots of social commentary and subtext wrapped up in one bang-up plot.

No, not “a.” Multiple.

Mickey 17
Meh , good production and style, could have been 1/2 an hour shorter and told the same story. Somewhat predictable but passed the time. Robert P did a good job of making the Mickeys distinct .

Mission Impossible: Final Reckoning

Old fashioned, big picture goofy fun. Too convoluted of a plot - I kinda checked out on following the logic about 6 minutes in (tbf, this is a common failure of… and my response to… the MI franchise). Looked fantastic on IMAX, our biggest issue was that there was not a lot of scenery- no Alps, no deserts, just lots of rooms. And even the end, which took place on the Congo river, had too many close up shots and not enough beautiful vistas.

Regardless, would recommend :ok_hand:.

I’ve walked past Cafe Wha! many times but never went in. Triva time: during the time period covered it was owned and operated by Manny Roth who was David Lee Roth’s cousin.

Apple has had good luck with their TV series (Severance, Shrinking, Silo, Murderbot, Ted Lasso, etc.), but they can’t seem to figure out how to make a good movie.

Rewatched Fury, as I couldn’t recall much of it. I also tried to rewatch the first Transporter movie, but it was so over-the-top I had to stop. Outrunning bullets and rockets just strains the suspension of disbelief to breaking. And just how did a woman tied to a chair manage to get into the backseat of a car?

I remember hearing about this film back in the early 90s when Kim Basinger was sued for dropping out. I did see it years later when it was on Showcase late at night. Very strange film. If I recall correctly, doesn’t it end with Sherylynn Fenn waking up and realizing that it was all a dream?

No, Julian Sands wakes up and realizes it was a dream.

Landed like a “thunk” in terms of twists. It’s pretty lame.

Thank you. Still a lame twist.

Taking me right back to my childhood — religious shite and a little bit of hard scrabble tho not to the same extent.
The correct time frame tho maybe a few years later when I would go to Oklahoma with parents for my sister to go to bible university in Enid.
in the mid/late 50s.

Dennis Quaid is perfect in the role….even the accent.

and another schmaltzfest

Shark Exorcist on Tubi. Well, you go into a movie with a title like Shark Exorcist with pretty low expectations (I’m a sucker for trash), but even so, this one managed to disappoint. It doesn’t even come close to the level of “so bad it’s good.” You have an incoherent story that plays out like the shooting script was just the rough notes someone scribbled during a ten-minute brainstorming session. Stuff just happens, and then other stuff happens, and then yet other stuff happens. You have actors with no talent, most of them clearly uncomfortable in front of the camera. I would recommend this movie in the context that some people like to slow down on the highway to rubberneck at catastrophic car wrecks.

I saw Shark Exorcist 2.

It was incredibly dull.

I saw that there was a Shark Exorcist 2. I believe I’ll pass, hoping that no one else in the family feels they haven’t gotten enough of the Shark Exorcist universe.

I thought they’d made CODA but it looks like they were just the distributor for it.

Funny, I thought the same. Apple did co-produce Killers of the Flower Moon.

Mission Impossible Final Reckoning

It would be a great movie if it was edited down to 2 hours instead of 2 hours 50 minutes, I agree with everyone who said the first hour of that movie is entirely unnecessary. It only exists because this is supposed to be the “final” movie so we gotta get a lot of flashbacks to previous movies apparently.
