I’m still annoyed that they made a sequel and didn’t call it Now You Don’t.
Took them long enough!
Interesting, because so do I. But I can’t quite articulate why. Just rubs me the wrong way somehow. There are other actors I don’t like but usually for very clear reasons.
Aren’t they released due to lack of evidence?
Poor Jesse Eisenberg, classic case of Backpfeifengesicht.
Playing Marc Zuckerberg did nothing to increase his likability. I call it Steve Railsback syndrome.
Seems to me that he’s doing just fine, one might even say “swell,” punchable face or no.
Here we go. They are both locked in the cell at the beginning of this clip, then you can skip to 5:30. I rolled my eyes so hard I could see my brain.
It’s such a tough movie series for me. I hate Jesse Eisenberg more than any other actor, but I love Mark Ruffalo. There’s very little I’ve seen him in that hasn’t impressed me. But, no, too much Eisenberg in this one for me.
I enjoyed 12 Strong in the theater but really felt like its a film that came too late, a patriotic war film about Afghanistan but in 2018?!
there are still WWII films being made tho.
Speaking of WWII films, I watched The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare last night. I was shocked to discover at the end that it was based on a real WWII operation (Operation Postmaster) because the whole film was so cartoonishly stupid. Even Churchill was a complete caricature.
Apparently you can just wander into an enemy camp in broad daylight and shoot and/or stab 60 soldiers without difficulty, aided by < checks notes > a silenced submachine gun? In fact most of the film is “the main cast walk around and shoot and/or stab Nazis with impunity” to the point where you start to feel like they’ve depopulated an entire German city’s worth of men.
I don’t mind Guy Ritchie in general but this is just dumb dumb dumb. Honestly, the whole thing is saved from complete unwatchability by the presence of Henry Cavill, who is a delight in everything.
(Another note: at the end, there are the usual “here are pictures of the real people and all the awesome things they did” after-comments, which for some reason leave out the fact that they all died before the end of the war, some within a couple of months of the operation. Too much of a downer, I guess.)

CODA 2021 (Child of Deaf Adults) Marlee Matlin, Emilia Jones
I cannot comment if it’s better because I’ve not watched it yet, but this is a remake of a french movie La Famille Belier
La Famille Belier is a French/Belgian movie. Unlike CODA, it has hearing people playing deaf people. In the past month, the documentary Marlee Matlin: Not Alone Anymore has been released. It’s a film about her with lots of interviews. Some of the interviews have people signing American Sign Language with subtitles in English. Some of them have people speaking English with subtitles in English. Some interesting facts are revealed in it. Did you know that Henry Winkler (i.e., Fonzie in Happy Days) is one of her closest friends?
Couldn’t agree more. I’d expected some silliness (it’s Ritchie, after all) but it was way OTT. I doubt the reality was anything like it, although as ever I guess dramatic licence must be allowed to some extent. Operation Mincemeat was better but actually more of a disappointment as I had higher expectations.

My first sentence in that quote was inappropriate and I apologize and withdraw it.
Consider it forgotten.
I watched The Old Guard 2 last night. It’s a good turn your brain off movie. As can be gleaned from the opening screen on Netflix it’s about a group of immortals who go around killing bad guys. No real explanation why any of this is happening. Don’t think too much about it. Decent cast with Charlize Theron, Chiwetel Ejiofor and an underutilized Uma Thurman. Well done action. Just don’t expect anything to be resolved. It was made assuming there will be a third one.
Apparently this comes from a series of graphic novels. Maybe that fleshes out the mythos more. The movies certainly don’t.

Did you know that Henry Winkler (i.e., Fonzie in Happy Days) is one of her closest friends?
I think everyone who meets Henry Winkler considers him to be one of their closest friends. He’s also very close friends with Sylvester Stallone going all the way back to The Lords of Flatbush.

Henry Winkler
What happened with Marlee Matlin was that she had just broken up with a boyfriend. She needed a place to stay for a weekend. Winkler said she could stay with him and his family for the weekend. She ended up staying for two years.

Except for Tom Hanks
