Movies you've seen recently (Part 2)

I’ve seen the first one of these and did appreciate it, but it suffered from a definite annoying trope which put me off watching more: DTD (Deserves to Die).

So, you are looking for your girl late night, who has gone missing, and you enter a warehouse. Another girl is hanging from the ceiling in this warehouse, mutilated beyond belief. What do you do?

  1. Go looking around in this warehouse for the obvious psychopath mass murderer who did this, or…

  2. Run away and call the police.

Have a shot as to which one pretty much all of the characters apart from the starting one did.

Second one hasn’t been watched because, for gods sake, it’s nearly 2 and a half hours long. Who the hell has long slasher movies? Does it think its marvel?

It’s definitely more of the same. It just seems to be a bit of the movie culture right now.

Releasing it Unrated did get kids in the theater and when you see this, you may wonder if that is so wise. I wouldn’t want my kids watching it. I think a NC-17 rating would have been better, but I know that would kill the movie.

Batman 1989, Jack Nicholson, Michael Keaton

First time watching. I wasn’t very interested when it originally came out. The camp tv Batman is a special part of my childhood.

I had some time and it’s free on Max. So, why not watch?

It’s a little unsettling seeing my childhood hero kill people. Well, he kills bad people. Death Wish in a black rubber suit.

Jack Nicholson surprised me. I usually don’t like his over the top performances. His style works really well as the Joker. I really like his dancing in the art museum. Catchy music as his cohorts vandalize stuff. I recognize Tim Burtons directorial style in that scene.

Keaton surprised me too. He’s pretty good as Bruce Wayne. He was a bit too stone faced in the Bat Suit. The rubber suit limited his movement. There’s a noticeable rigid movement. Keaton said later he was uncomfortable wearing that suit. The director wisely kept the action shots brief. We mostly see Batman seated in the car or standing still.

I’d give it 4 stars out of 5.
I’m not a Marvel fan. Batman is better than I expected.

I’ll watch Batman Returns if it’s also free on Max.

Btw, Michael Keaton is returning to the role.
Link Confirmed: Michael Keaton's Batman Will Finally Return in Direct Sequel to 1989 Film - Inside the Magic

I think that’s just a novel; not a film.

A novel makes more sense.

Keaton is 73 and Basinger 70. They’re still working and could still appear in a movie. But the movie would have to address their ages. Batman retires story.

Uh, he did just play Batman in The Flash last year. He looked great.

I’ll spoil what happens:

He dies.

Now I’m curious to watch The Flash.

First Superman,Captain America, and now Batman bites the dust.

They better not tie up Wonder Woman and kill her off too.

I would watch Batman Returns and then stop. Batman Forever and Batman and Robin were bad in the 90s. I can’t imagine that they have improved with age.

Nostalgia is a helluva drug. If ST Voyager can have a weird fandom resurgence anything is possible.
Also, I think Batman Returns is kind of bad but it gets by on the strength of the chemistry in the performers.

The thing I like about the Tim Burton films is that for the first time Gotham (especially its denizens) is presented as a place completely divorced from reality. Even the 1966 show didn’t do that. Gotham is a place where weird shit just happens. I think the Gotham TV show borrowed more from those two films than it did the Nolan films.

Returns is my favorite Batman movie by far. The different natures of the 3 villains was quite interesting. The next two just went with “villains” and ignored, you know, plot and stuff.

The Dark Knight was a textbook case of a really stupid movie. Gave up after the first Bale one.

I really liked Danny DeVito’s portrayal of the Penguin in Batman Returns.

I always felt that Batman Forever got a little bit of a bum rap. Val Kilmer was a great Batman; he played the part well, and he looked a lot more like what you would expect Bruce Wayne to look like. Chris O’Donnell also did a fairly good job introducing Robin in that film.

The main issue with the movie is the villains. Jim Carrey just blatantly ripped off Frank Gorshin for his portrayal of the Riddler and Tommy Lee Jones Two-Face was way too cartoonish (it didn’t help that the movie was the first one released after Batman: The Animated Series aired; Clancy Brown’s portrayal of Two-Face in that was stupendous, as was the performance of all the main cast of that series).

Salem’s Lot (2024)

Not recommended.

Mostly boring, a few neat moments. The movie is not god-awful, but there are a lot better ways to spend your money and time. For a movie filled with vampires attacking and so forth, it manages to be pretty boring.

I actually thought about quitting, but didn’t. First hour is dull. Second hour actually had a few interesting things, but not enough to save the movie.

Skip it.

I ranked the Halloween movies.

Yes, by the way, Terrifier 3 is the first feature film(not including a Beyonce concert movie) to be Unrated and win the box office.

Just rewatched the 1979 Salem’s Lot and kept on cracking up at all the coy sex references, culminating in a 30 year-old woman being told by her father that she was seen “at the lake” with some man, and her blushing something fierce. This “lake” reference was mentioned at least five times, all relating to adults getting laid, and it never stopped being funny.

Get Shorty, 1995 John Travolta, Gene Hackman.

Get Shorty is a great send up of Hollywood movie production. Gene Hackman is very funny play the sleazy movie producer that will work with gangsters to raise money.

Edit time out burned me. I forgot that I accidentally hit post. Took my time looking up the spelling of names and typing.

Get Shorty is a great send up of Hollywood movie production. Gene Hackman is very funny play the sleazy movie producer that will work with gangsters to raise money. The role is so unexpected for Hackman. He usually plays the tough guy roles.

John Travolta didn’t waste his career revival from Pulp Fiction. He made Get Shorty and Broken Arrow the next year. He’s pretty good in Get Shorty. The scene with him helping Danny Devitio get into character as a mobster is very funny.

James Gandolfini is the inept stuntman/enforcer that gets manhandled by Travolta. Nice role a few years before he hit it big in The Sopranos.

It’s free on Max.

So it’s “free” in the sense that you have to buy a subscription to Max?
