Went to see The Amazing Digital Circus: The Last Act, another film derived from a television show. This time it was basically presenting the end of the series.
A surprising amount of depth and pathos, all things considered. But it’s going to be released on YouTube in a couple weeks so unless you’re a huge fan, just wait for it.
Is God Is
Recommended. Somewhat.
Two twin girls are burned by their father in a fire as youth. They meet their mother for the first time, who tells them to go get revenge on their father. They set out to do so.
It was fine. I was hoping for better, but it was only fine. It’s a play and in a rare instance, the writer-director of the play also directed and wrote the movie.
Not the best revenge story, but a pretty good one. Acting is solid all around. I found myself wondering if any of the lead actors were in the play version on stage.
I don’t get the title. No one says “Is God Is” in any form. They call their mother “God”, though.
A solid 6 or 7 out of 10.
Another Thumbs Up for The Sheep Detectives (new release in a theater). Watched it with 3 three kids (ages 10-12) and three other adults. Everyone had a good time.
The time period is contemporary, the sheep talk to each other and understand people — but the people can’t understand sheep-talk. The sheep are CGI. Voice actors include Patrick Stewart, Bryan Cranston and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
The shepherd is Hugh Jackson, and he lives in an Airstream trailer. He reads to his flock and favors detective novels, so the smarter sheep develop a good sense of how such books are structured. When an actual crime occurs the sheep try to apply that knowledge to solving the crime.
There’s some silliness, but the film also deals with death, religion, and other weighty issues and does so without being too heavy handed.
Am I the only one who didn’t recognize a single voice?
You’re not alone. It’s rare that I can identity voice actors, and didn’t catch any of those.
Obsession
Highly recommended.
Wow, the best 2026 film I’ve seen yet…I think. A guy wishes the girl he likes would like him. From there, things go wrong. Simple premise, feels like a Twilight Zone premise, but it is so well done. The girl who plays the main love interest give an Oscar worthy performance.

I didn’t realize it was Patrick Stewart, but I definitely recognized Bryan Cranston and Brett Goldstein immediately.
Yup agreed. Saw it twice already. Incredible film, one of the best of the year so far. Can’t believe they made the whole thing for just $750,000. It does not at all look cheap.
Watching the credits I was amazed that I hadn’t twigged on Stewart and Cranston.
Nitpick: Jackman
I watched Milk & Serial awhile back and it showed this Youtuber has movie making abilities. Obsession really solidified it. He’s great.

That’s three recent movies (Obsession, Backrooms and Iron Lung) that come from people who got their start on YouTube. No idea if any will have any continued success or whether the trend will last.
Wonder Woman 2017 Gal Gadot, Steve Pine, David Thewlis
On Max
It took a minute to recognize Professor Lupin (Harry Potter). The actor’s appearance has changed significantly.
I’m not impressed with Gal Gadot. I didn’t see much emotion or range in her performance. I suspect she was cast primarily because of her imposing size and fitness.
The movie was ok. I had trouble accepting Wonder Woman on a battlefield with rockets, tanks and machine guns. Her costume was even unstained after the battle. 
The sequel Wonder Woman 1984 is also on Max. I’ll probably watch.

I looked this film up since you tend to recommend horror films which is a genre I do not watch. And it took me a while to confirm that was the case because although it was released in theaters in the US in 2026 it actually premiered in September of 2025 (and that is what is listed as the release year), so I think that makes it ineligible for any awards that it hasn’t already received.
