I’ve not seen Young Sheldon, but the old one is a dick as well as being autistic. Not because.
I almost mentioned that. It’s still one of the best, I think. That and Dr. King in The Pitt.
I understand autism can be different in people. I wasn’t diagnosed until college. I’m thankful the symptoms weren’t worse in my case and they’re easier to control in adulthood.

Outstanding performance by De Niro. He’s one terrifying tattooed, psychotic killer.
Nolte was playing against type. I think He lost weight to look more vulnerable. His transformation from meek law-abiding lawyer to crazed killer protecting his family is astonishing.
They’re rolling around in the mud & water like primitive men 8,000 years ago. Literally bashing each other with rocks.
It’s a must see movie.

Noises Off…

We watch the same 1st Act of a play three times. We start with rehearsal, which goes poorly but everyone is trying. Then we get to see the act months later when the cast is angry with each other. This time, we see it from behind the scenes, but we know the Act well enough and you can really enjoy the comedy from behind the scenes. The final time we see it, the entire show has fallen apart because the cast can’t work together and everyone has become unreliable.
It feels like a precursor to “Christmas Carol Gone Wrong” and all the “Gone Wrong” shows you might have seen. Those are a lot funnier, but this movie is quite entertaining.
Not amazing, but amusing throughout.
On that side note, I recently saw (live on stage) “The Comedy About Spies” by the same writers and actors as the “Goes Wrong” plays. They are absolute masters of farce and this was no exception. Relentlessly hilarious.
I understand the stage version of Noises Off (which I haven’t seen) is better than the film version (which I have). I’m of the opinion that farce really needs the pace and energy of live performance to have full effect, but the film is still pretty good. Would also reecommend.
Just about anything with Michael Caine is recommended, add in Carol Burnett, John Ritter and Christopher Reeve and how could it go wrong? A fun movie from start to finish.
I once worked on a production of Play On! by Rick Abbott which has a similar structure and theme, though not exactly. I believe I had seen Noises Off by the time I worked on the play so it felt familiar to me as soon as I read the script.

It was great to see Christopher Reeve be funny and he did a great job. I really think he was a terrific actor, one of the best out there, and so many only see/saw him as Superman and Clark Kent.
Agree with the idea that this was clearly a stage production and would thrive in a stage setting. I’m still glad they made a film and it was very well done.

Today’s special showing in the theater was 1962’s The Manchurian Candidate. The parallels with the current regime are striking. “She calls everyone she disagrees with communist.”
We watched it with the fans of public radio crowd, so when Senator Jordan said he gave all the lawsuit settlement money to the ACLU, the audience actually applauded!
It was neat to see it with obviously a bunch of people that had never seen it. There were audible gasps of surprise at the surprising points.
I remember when I first saw this, and thought “Angela Lansbury did something other than Murder She Wrote?” I can’t remember exactly why I watched it, maybe to find out where the term came from, but I thought it was great.

Meatballs (1979) - IMDb
Not great, but really …nice. Surprisingly inoffensive for a movie of its time. This is the BillMurrayest movie I’ve ever seen. The kid (Chris Makepeace) was pretty good too, I’d have expected him to go on to a bigger career.
I really liked Meatballs. It had more heart than you’d expect. And as for Chris Makepeace, no, he didn’t have a big career but My Bodyguard, released the following year, was also good.
Man, talk about a movie that sticks with you and exceeds expectations. Everyone acted their asses off.
Murder She Wrote was fairly late in Lansbury’s 80-year acting career.
Although that is true, she did spend 12 years of her acting career doing so. And The Manchurian Candidate came out in 1962 which is before I was born.
