Movies you've seen recently (Part 2)

My questions aren’t just about that aspect but you’re right, I must have missed it. Can you remind me when it was shown? Maybe I saw it and it didn’t stand out because there was so many “party scenes” that everything kind of meshed together for me. I think I was looking for something more elaborate / creative than the ultimate group date rape with the ultimate date rape drug. I am now looking forward to streaming it so I can watch more closely.
Also, damn , it’s great to see Geena Davis.

Watched The Beekeeper (Prime) because I wanted to watch an action film. Jason Statham’s character could out fight and out plan an unlimited number of opponents (cf. John Wick, Jason Bourne, Ethan Hunt, Jack Reacher, etc.). He was retired, but was faced with an injustice he couldn’t ignore.

Statham is taller than Tom Cruise, but has a smaller production budget. The film didn’t deliver style, originality or humor, but I finished it. The villains operated a call center so there was some joy seeing them get dead. No grade — generic action movie, it was okay.

I really disliked and was bored by Beekeeper.

I’m really not sure how you could have missed that and actually seen the film. It wasn’t like one quick shot, it was extensive and violent and fairly graphic.

Well now I’m questioning my sanity. Or my own memory :anguished: I’m almost tempted to see it again but I’ll wait until it’s streaming. This is very strange and troubling.

Have you used any new perfumes lately…?

I’ll PM you.

Thanks for taking the time to explain. I plead temporary insanity :slightly_smiling_face:

I am currently watching “Woodchipper Massacre” on Twitch. Acting unworthy of a camp skit, people that have no idea that microphones exist so they shout every line, and reportedly a total budget of about $400…including the cost of the camera. Even though it contains the word “Massacre” in the title, this dreck is PG, if not almost G.

I finally got around to watching The Big Lebowski last night. I thought it was just OK. The acting (particularly John Goodman) was pretty good. The Coen brothers are definitely hit or miss with me. I read that they purposely wanted the movie to be a bit convoluted. They succeeded (IMO.) I don’t quite get what turned this movie into such a cult classic though.

I also finally watched it several months ago. I’m glad somebody else has the same opinion as me! It was okay, but certainly not great enough to make me want to run out and buy a t-shirt.

Well… that’s like… your opinion man…

Finally watched Oppenheimer. Was not in the mood for it before. It was all it was cracked up to be and then some. It still is in my head. I will have to force my husband, who does not watch movies, to see it, as his career was in high energy physics.

Very weird that it was somehow paired with Barbie of all things, a film to be instantly forgotten.

Hotel (2004)

Boring. Skip it. It’s streaming release was apparently a big deal because it was hard to find even a DVD.

A waste of time.

I have been telling people that I am apparently the only one who thinks the 1980 movie called Oppenheimer is better than the 2003 one. That may not even be true. The IMDb score of the 2023 one is 8.3, while the score of the 1980 one is 8.2. See them both and compare.

Perhaps one has to have an affinity for the slacker lifestyle to fully appreciate Jeff Bridges’s Lebowski characterization. I’m a lazy fuck who wants to be unencumbered by most constraints so I get it.

I would think there might be some crossover with the people who also think Lester Burnham’s quiet but insistent rebellion in American Beauty was funny and almost inspirational.

I’m more of a Ron Livingston in Office Space type.

Till Death (2021).

Thriller staring Megan Fox. It was fun to watch, but most scenes were over-the-top ridiculous and unrealistic.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice
A kinda pointless sequel that just checks off all the gags from the first film. Maybe if there was 50% more Harry Belafonte and 100% less Richard Harris…

Not for me. But probably because I like Jeff Bridges a lot and loathe Spacey.
