Moving From Pagan to Wiccan

I’ve always referred to myself as Pagan, because I never practiced any magick. Not because I had anything against it, but because I never had the time to really sit down and study it and give it a try. I felt that calling myself Wiccan was sort of like calling myself an auto mechanic, when all I know how to do is put gas in the car.

Well, now I’m ready. I’ve tried a couple of short, simple Wiccan rituals, and I like it. It feels right.

I am, however, a Solitary practitioner. I’m wondering if I really, really need to do an “initiation.” I’m committed already. My Goddess knows that. Is the ceremony really necessary?

Any opinions? Any other Solitaries out there who initiated themselves? I’d like to hear some stories.

Bright Blessings!

Hey Persephone,

I have absolutely nothing constructive to add to this thread, being that I am a practicing, stumbling, bumbling Catholic.

I do hope that your continuing search will bring you happiness and enlightenment.

Hey Persephone!

Do you recognize the right of any other person to tell you what you must do in order to be a properly practicing Wiccan?

(we hope not)

Blessed Be.

Like Bluepony, I’m a Christian rather than a Wiccan. But I can still have an opinion.

IMO, an initiation ritual is always beneficial wherever there is a change in status. The purpose of ritual is to bring the heart and soul in tune with the conscious mind; it accesses the subconscious to speak to the part of our selves which is beyond words and reasoning.

Yes, I’ve recently gone from Agnostic to Pagan in the past few weeks of finding inspiration in a great many things. I think that you should only initiate yourself if you feel that it’s the time for it. Personally, I’m probably gonna go a similar route as you: stay Pagan until I feel I’m ready and have the time to practice the craft. It’s strange; ever since I’ve made the deicision, I’ve gained a lot of intuitive power and I am a bit more psychically sensitive. Interesting. I was wondering if anyone would volunteer an ear for when I come into a need for advice in this area. Thanks and Blessed be.

On a holiday even!
I am solitary mostly. My step-daughters mom and step-dad are priest and priestess. (he’s the guy I had you e-mail about your vacation days)
Anyway. I do most of my ritual alone, but holidays it is nice to get with just them, and all eight children since I have nobody to spend my Pagan holidays with since I married a Baptist.
Anyway if you would like I could ask them for you.

Shadows, feel free to e-mail me, Icq me, or AIM me if you want to chat a bit.
I miss Upham and the great in depth conversations about beliefs that we used to have. Yes guys he had a wonderful serious side.

I am Solitary, as well. Can’t seem to find any others near me. Though I do have a few friends who I can have circles with, they happen to be scattered across the country.

I was never initiated, in any sort of ceremony, but I feel that the summer I had with them was an initiation of sorts. I think it kind of just comes to you, if you’re not in any kind of Coven. It came to me like that, a feeling of Oh! Now I’m ready and the Goddess know it.

Hope that helped!

Wow, Zyada, that was beautiful!

Well, you certainly don’t need to have any sort of initiation. You have decided where you belong and that is enough. However, if it would make it feel more “permanent” for you to have some sort of ceremony, by all means do it.

Congratulations, sweetie. I’m glad you feel you have decided and that Wicca is right for you.

Blessed Be.

Other than to say “Me too!” an initiation ritual is usually for joining a coven, but if you feel like you need to do it, then by all means go right ahead.

I have a couple of rituals that may help you if you would like to email me.
