Well, since we’re back on the subject again, I’ll add a recommendation to go see the Western Antique Aeroplane and Automobile Museum . The collection is huge–you could easily spend 2-3 hours there.

That was not the reason Hood River Blackie went to Hood River. He was living in the past and could not move on, also was not the 50’s, the late 60’s and early 70’s. An alcoholic for sure but would not drink just anything or he would have done the wax works with the local bum’s as well. Never pretended to be dead that I know of, but ran from creditors often, did not have extra wives or I would have met them. Treated his children extremely bad keeping them homeless and hungry, very upset when his 2nd oldest son walked away from him and became world traveled, triple educated, contracted to professional sports and would give him nothing. and the only rotten individual I know that has an oral Dissertation at Columbia University. So the truth lays here, often we believe everything we hear. Not mad at you, love reading things about the guy that makes him truly visible for what he was…I was the 2nd Son.
Fascinating stuff. It’s not often you get a first-hand account of history on a message board.

Due to circumstances I won’t get into until later, I will be moving to the Hood River region in Oregon. My nephew lives there, but it would be nice to get some other perspectives on the place.
What’s fun to do there? Where are the museums? Where are the (almost) secret places to get good food inexpensively? WHat stores have the crappiest service?
Anything you know could be of some use to me.
Thank you.

I lived in Oregon for the first 50 years of my life. Been living overseas for 13 years now. Hood River?
It might be a nice place to visit, or better yet, drive through, but I wouldn’t want to live there.
