I’ve recently applied to work as an English teacher in Japan. Is there anyone out there who has been involved in this type of scheme, and can give me any handy hints in making the transition to the East? I’ve not got the job yet, but here’s hoping.

I’ve been teaching in Japan for six years and could give you lots of advice, too. I’d need to know many more details, however. I only taught English at an American business college, but I feel there is something wrong grammatically with the following sentences:
“I’ve not got the job yet, but here’s hoping.”
“… I may not answer you for a while…”
Rainbow “Grammer is a nice old lady, don’t murder her” Dragon
Rainbow, what’s wrong with the first first one? It seems idiomatically OK, “here’s hoping” following the form of a toast.
Of course “first first” is an obvious solecism, so don’t bother pointing that out.
And excuse me for ending that with a preposition
