Moving to NY--advice needed

One thing with apartments is that landlords will try to make a bedroom out of anything and they can be a joke. “1BR” commands a higher rent than a studio (obviously), even if you’re not gaining a lot of extra square footage. If you’re by yourself, it might be nicer to live in an open studio (relatively speaking) than a cramped one bedroom, IMO. If you can get one in a doorman building, so much the better.

As for the car - avoid having one in the city if you possibly can. The last couple months I’ve been terribly distracted and made some costly parking errors to the tune of about $500. It just happens sometimes no matter how careful you are. Finding parking gets old real fast and if you don’t really need the car then you’re just worrying and shuffling it around for no good reason.
