The volume is quite low. I have it set all the way to 20, but it seems more like it is set on 6 or 7. I can hardly hear the softer sound like the piano or acoustic guitar.
I thought maybe it was the source of the mp3, such as the quality of something I downloaded, but it is the same for a track I ripped from my own cd.
Check the (master) volume level on your PC, and external speakers. Either one (or both) being low will make your music quiet no matter what you set your MP3 player to.
I’m not sure which Creative Jukebox you are talking about, but I presume it’s the first model. I am the proud owner of both the original and the newer Zen. The original fell out of my bag while cycling, hence the replacement.
Both are quiet pieces of hardware, and their maximum volume will never match that of a CD player. That said, there is something that you can do to help, if you haven’t tried it already. The headphones that came with both players are painfully quiet. They also produce a lot of antisocial sound leakage, and aren’t particularly good in any other area either. Spend a bit of money on a pair of ‘in the ear’ headphones. Find a model where there is actually some sort of plug that goes into the ear canal (if your ears can take it). These reduce external sound and make the player sound a lot louder. They player should even be usable in aircraft, where I’ve traditionally had to worst volume problems. If you invest enough money, they can also be of fairly good quality too.
These are similar to the headphones I use and definitely recommend them, or something similar:
I also have a Creative Jukebox; I use headphones with an independent volume control to correct this problem…
[hijack] I have a problem with my Jukebox in that a new CD I purchased (Blur’s Think Tank) won’t rip to my player. It is an enhanced CD, which usually isn’t a problem, but when it is done doing its thing, the computer doesn’t recognize that there is a CD in the drive. I am tempted to think that Virgin did this on purpose. Any one have suggestions? [/hijack]
Return the CD it is defective either due to manufacturing defects or intentionally. If it does not play on a CD player that plays most other CDs then there is something wrong with the CD that does not play.
