This poor fellow was held in isolation, in the state of Nevada, without benefit of a hearing, legal assistance, or even proper medical care. In fact, the only doctor to treat this poor fellow was was a botanist. Information is somewhat sketchy, but apparently Mr Ebe died after several years of imprisonment and mistreatment by the authorities. His family was never notified.
Understandably Mr. Ebe refused to cooperate with authorities, even to the point of lying to the investigators. He refused to provide his name, date of birth or current address. Fingerprints were of no value as there was nothing to match them with on record. He carried no identification, no proof of citizenship or other documentation. Does this justify imprisonment and isolation?
The citation is a YouTube video and Mr Ebe appears to be naked, This may be NSFW. So to be safe…
Well, apparently he violated 8 U.S.C. § 1325 by entering the United States at a place other than designated by immigration officers, and failed to register as an alien as required by 8 U.S.C. § 1302 (or their predecessor statutes). Assuming his vehicle was exceeding the legal speed limits, he was also in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 758. That’s five years, baby.
IMO, since he lied, that means they talked to him. So deport across the fence or to S. America, or to the Mideast. Where ever he is from.
Going to jail him, run him through the court system. Use a crooked Judge but just sitting on him for this long… We are shamed with one Gitmo, we don’t need more.
Interesting. A while back I asked if anyone had been sentenced to death and executed, in reasonably modern civilian criminal court, without having a confirmed identity. (The basic question was "have we ever executed a ‘John Doe’?)
