So I’ve heard that Snopes has (sort of) solved the “Up the Butt, Bob” mystery. Well, today I spied a recent issue of the National Examiner with a VERY INTERESTING headline: “Mr. Ed a Zebra!!! --Shocking Claim Inside!” Always intrigued by Shocking Claims, I turned to the article in question. Two thoughts crossed my mind upon reaching the brazenly entitled, “Mr. Ed! You thought he was a horse, of course!”
One: Hey, nobody told me JonBonet Ramsey had been
murdered! Thank you, National Examiner, for keeping
me on top of the events that shape my world!
Two: Hey, I’ve heard this one before.
Snopes.com did a report on Mr. Ed’s true equine identity a long time ago. Apparently, the Examiner’s a bit behind on the times, while Snopes consistantly kicks ass.
Anyone read the article, either of them, and know of what I speak?
The thing on Snopes was a joke, wasn’t it? I mean, the lame “Mr Ed in color/B&W” graphic? And–of all the animals in the world that wouldn’t show their true colors on a B&W TV–a ZEBRA!!!
Mr Ed was obviously a beautiful, but elderly, palamino horse. There are so many anatomical differences between zebras and horses! You’d be better off trying to confuse zebras and donkeys.
Yes, the Snopes thing was a joke. They have a whole section that’s basically “if you’ll believe this, you’ll believe anything”. I can’t remember the name of the section, but it’s there. That’s where the Mr. Ed thing is, and a thing about why KFC changed its name, among others.
The Snopes area is called The Repository Of Lost Legends, or TROLL. Get it?
It threw me too, mainly because somebody sited the Mr. Ed page directly, so I didn’t catch that it was in the spoof area. Then some kind soul here pointed out the topic area, and I felt enlightened (yet stupid for believing it in the first place).
