Mr. Irrelevant

So, I’m watchin’ the NFL draft today…drinkin’ my Miller Lite for the low carbohydrate count, eatin’ a meatloaf sandwich for the protein, wearin’ my Brian Urlacher Jersey…and I wonder…

has Mr. Irrelevant ever turned out to be a hugely successful football star? Or has he always actually been…Mr. Irrelevant?

Maybe not HUGELY successful, but linebacker Marty Moore (Browns) who was “Mr. Irrelevant” in the 1994 draft is still playing, as is running back Jim Finn (Colts), who got the “prize” in 1999.

Oh, and here’s the list:

Not really household names, but Rolf Benirshke was a placekicker who lasted a few years. Somebody may recognize other names.

It’s not quite as much fun these days to chart the success of Mr. Irrelevant since the draft was shortened. A guy picked in the seventh round is a lot less disposable than a guy picked in the 12th.
