Mr. Shoe is in the hospital

Awwwww!!! Normal and routine is a good thing IMO.

I never understood that curse “May you live in exciting times”, until I started living in exciting times. I love my boring life now. I hope things stay pretty boring (with some exciting good things) until he’s at work.

If I can make a suggestion about foot drop.
Get a pair of high top sneakers for him. Put them on, with socks of course, for a few hours during the day. Start out with just an hour, and gradually build up to 4 hours. So, ultimately, they’re on 4 off 1-2, until bed time. Check for areas of pressure whenever they come off.

The PT dept has all kinds of fancy, expensive foot drop prevention stuff, but, high tops work better than any of them. Also, it often makes patients feel less like patients and more like people. (getting away with putting their shoes on the bed.)

Gotta agree. I look forward to the days of boredom + good stuff

Bumping this to wonder if things are going so well that you have found out that the nurses will leave you alone to do some “personal physical therapy”.

If so, some second hand advice. One of my friends was helping exercise her husband’s hip replacement and…well…just at that moment…he fainted. Of course she paniced, and Nurses and Doctors were involved.

From what I understand, his extended bed rest caused a low blood pressure problem and he just fainted for a minute. I also understand that he wasn’t pleased to wake up from a good time and have lots of people running around in his room.

So…if this happens for you guys…hit the panic button and then be prepared to be embarrassed.

I dropped by to check on y’all as well. Especially when I saw that the last poster was flatlined.
Did not bode well.
Good to know I was over-reacting.

Think we should start a “get flatlined a new name” petition? I vote for Biker Chick

Glad things are better at the purple household.

Heart? You guys OK?

Been offline for a few days and am so excited at so much good news!! WHen you told him about the thread, did you tell him that said internet strangers call him Schmoopie, or you saving that till he’s better??

Oh, man, I have not told him that yet. Maybe he’ll just never read this thread …

I’m glad I saw this before I mailed my card!! (If you plan on keeping this a secret, you might need to check any ‘mystery return address’ cards that come in…)

never read it? we expect him to post in it!

Well, he’s been on a mostly-upward trajectory all this time that we got kinda spoiled. Today: much more roller-coaster.

When I saw him 1st thing this morning, he was just fine (relatively speaking, of course) but when we came back at noon OOPS! emergency bronchioscope! His oxygen levels were plummeting, but the doctor said he didn’t suction out much in the way of mucus plugs (which was a problem for Shoe earlier). They took some X-rays just now, and they’re going to do a venous doppler scan of his legs to see if he has any embolisms or other blood issues that might be interfering with his lungs. Gah.

I am sorry to hear your news - sending out more wishes for a health and recovery!

CT scan showed:

  • 7 cm cavity in right lung, and a smaller cavity in left (probably due to an infection)
  • no embolism in his legs or heart, lots, so no need for blood thinners at the moment

His oxygen level back up ok: 93/94 - it was getting scary-low earlier. He was moved in and out of the scan room with no issues, and has been re-admitted to the ICU for closer monitoring. More details if/when we know more, but for now, his doctors are still narrowing down causes. Doc said the cavity shouldn’t have caused such a drastic crash this morning…

I hope that whatever it is, they find it and get on top of it quickly. Then he can get back to his big TV! Good luck.

Oh oops. Guess how my card was addressed?

Not only post to it, but start up a thread about “ask the guy who almost died from WNV”. Because its a given that he will survive and post for our entertainment.

More prayers on the way. I know that this is going to be a long slog for both of you. The trail won’t be smooth, sometimes its downhill, but sometimes it goes up.

Would you trust a cleaning service to go into your home? I’m not thinking that you are a slob or anything, but cleaning the toilets must be way down on your list of things to do right now. I’m guessing that if all of the Dopers in this thread were to pony up 5 bucks, we would have enough money to get Merry Maids to dust and scrub for you.

I got ticked off and ripped off by paypall, so someone else will have to collect the money. I’ll offer up the first 5 bucks, though.

Just performing thread cleanup, ensuring that our flatlined’s post isn’t the last one in the thread.

Hang in thar, fella! We’re rooting for you!

confidently awaiting news he is back on the upward track again ((((((((MrShoe))))))

Good news update soon, please. :frowning:

Purplehorseshoe, I’m adding my wishes for good health and fast recovery for Mr. Shoe also.

Just wanted to pop in to say I’m fine, husband’s fine, and the kiddo enjoyed the hell out of his extended vacation with the grandparents. And since we were released, we’ve spent every free moment cleaning every inch of the house. And we’re still at it. And it’s totally worth it, but also totally exhausting. So I’m on board with flatlined’s plan; I’ll gladly throw in some dollars so someone else can do purplehorseshoe’s dirty work. All I ask in return is an update on purplehorseschmoopie. Hope you’re doing better.
