Yaaaaa for TOH
Awww…I’m such a nursey nerd, that (while, admittedly I like the sweetness), my first thought was, “holy crap! He remembered not only your anniversary, but is alert and oriented enough to realize that it’s coming up/plan it/communicate his plans to his folks or a nurse or someone to conspire with/give you the stuff today? That’s some awesome cognitive functioning for what he’s been through and how disorienting ICUs can be!”
So yay on multiple fronts!
Ok. I guess it’s time to tell you. You aren’t the only Shoe with a thread on a message board. There’s another board where he asked us all to send him cards for various events to give to you. It’s an amazing effort of crowdsourcing. ![]()
Happy Anniversary! I can’t imagine how much that made your day to get the card, and his day to be able to pull it off.

Awwww!!! Go TOS!!! He’s a keeper
What a great guy.
Isn’t he, though? When I bent over him to thank him he smacked my ass.
I brought him a mineral water this morning to pour over his ice chips, and got a hearty if silent “Cheers!” from him to toast our day.
Now, that’s romance!
Happy Anniversary and so glad things are going well.
A friend knew her husband was on the mend after a serious surgery / illness, when he asked her to show him her boobs (she happily obliged).
He’s much more stable, overall, so their goal for him for this week is to keep slowly but steadily decreasing his reliance on the oxygen vent.
Hurrah! Slow and steady will get you there too…eventually.
(just to let you know that yes; still reading, still care, and still sending good thoughts)
Good news! Here’s hoping he continues to get better!
That’s great news!
Poor guy had his trach pulled out and changed for a fresh one today. Apparently that hurt like all hell. ![]()
Man, I posted that on August 27th?!? Seriously?!? Holy shit. Anyway: guess what his respiratory tech brought him today?
He didn’t even have to ask: she remembered that he’d been asking for one for what seems like ages. He got his first one today! Plus: we didn’t have to wear our masks, for the first time since he’s gotten ill. Still had the gown + gloves + booties, but no mask! I didn’t get a chance to ask why (resp. tech was on the phone) but, hey! I’m taking that as a good sign! They’re doing more physical therapy with him (range of motion, flexing his hips and helping him stretch a bit) and overall he just looks … stronger. More with it.
Perhaps just a touch crankier, too. ![]()
Wow! Doing great!
Happy Day! Let’s have more of these, please.

It is, indeed, a good sign. It means he’s been moved off of “Droplet Precautions” to “Contact Precautions”. His bacterial load must be now low enough that they don’t think he’ll cough contagious stuff on you, and his immune system is strong enough that they don’t think he’ll catch everything you cough on him. They’re still going to go slow and make sure you don’t give him cooties from your skin and clothes, but there are a lot more cooties spread by contact than by droplet/air, so that makes sense. ![]()

Yay! That is wonderful!
Oh, yeah, and he’s been on spontaneous breathing (rather than assisted) for three solid days now.
WOO-HOOO!!!
(NOW she tells us!
)
I know! Wow, that’s awesome!
