I was actually right there when the resp. tech re-connected him to the oxygen. It looks like it must feel very weird.
Fingers crossed, everyone: they’re planning a swallow evaluation for him tomorrow!
Not posted til now, but I’ve been following; I’ll be sure to have my fingers, toes, legs, arms and eyes crossed.
And yay for vent-free breathing!

Man, y’all are great. Love the smiley, Mama Z.! I think MIL just cracked under the strain a bit - she was just so … uncharacteristic, so unlike herself. Whatever, water under the bridge, bygones are bygones and all that crap. My Shoe was in a fairly fine mood tonight and BOY is he looking forward to the promised soup/yogurt/mashed potatoes/etc! I have chicken broth in the freezer waiting for him, just as someone waaaaay upthread suggesting I get ready.
His resp. tech said, “It’s just about having soft food, stuff that’s easy to swallow, so they’ll even let you have mac’n’cheese and things like that!” and I thought I might cry right there. I’m sure hospital-grade mac’n’cheese isn’t anything to write home about, but just having some salty carbs filling his tummy up will I’m sure (I hope!) feel sooooo nice for him.

About the shower chair…measure first. We got one for my brother and it didn’t fit by a couple inches. When I needed one I sat on a ice chest. He’ll have a lot of muscle weakness for a while so bedside sponge baths may be all that’s needed at first.
What you have to do to make things work are going to constantly change as he progresses. The goodness of things getting better will eventually make all this seem like a dream, a good one I hope.
