Mr. Shoe is in the hospital

Yay!

Great news!

:dubious:

I thought this was what we posted for newly-pregnant Dopers. He’s, ah, been under the weather for a while, you know. If something is up, we’ll need to notify the head honchos of several major religions.
He seems to be holding up OK. I got a flu shot today, and jokingly whined to him that I didn’t get a wowwipop. He promptly handed me one of the Dum-Dums I brought him earlier (to get the nasssssty taste of one of this breathing treatments out of his mouth) so we watched TV together for a while with me, sitting there, with a hole poked into my isolation mask for the lollipop stick. :stuck_out_tongue:

ETA: ah, right, not everyone on this planet lives in the US. Dum-Dums are a brand of tiny little lollipops here (do you have them?) that come in a bunch of flavors, and really, wowwipop is a Simpsons reference more than anything else. Someone more clever than I might link to the YouTube clip.
ETA II: am looking into getting him an absentee voting ballot thingy. That whole healthcare-reform thing seems extra relevant, for some reason.

What wonderful news!

It should be pretty easy for you to get TOS an absentee ballet. You can probably do it online, or with a phone call. I don’t just toss boxes around, when elections come around I get pulled to work them in an official capacity. The last Presidential election, the head of the department sent me to deliver an absentee ballet to a lady who had been in a really bad car accident the day before. I also waited for her to fill it out and then delivered it to the ballet box. Everyone’s vote is important, and the people who work or volunteer at them honestly do want to make things easy for the voters.

I am here solely to wipe flatlined’s name off the side, lol.

He’s developed quite a lot of pain in the knee of his weaker leg overnight - said it hurt to straighten it (well, to have it straightened - he can’t move his own legs right now) and the knee is very warm to the touch. Otherwise he’s doing pretty good and seems to have settled in well. He’s so much less fragile than the last time we tried this, so I have a better feeling about the outcomes.

Sorry to hear Shoe’s knee is bothering him. Any medical opinions on why he’s having knee pain all of the sudden, yet?

How are his lungs doing?

They need to check his knee for DVT (blood clot) Glad he is stronger! (& FWIW, I love Dumdum’s which flavor is Shmoopie’s favorite?)

Isn’t the white one…cream soda, I think…everyone’s favorite?

Yes, they’re going to do a sonogramof his legs although he is still receiving blood thinners. And his knee will be looked at today - the pain only developed sometime in the wee hours of the morning, I think.

You know how I keep coming at this thread slantwise? Well, here I go again: I’m very glad they noticed his pain in the wee hours of the morning. Not just because it can be addressed that much sooner, but because it means they have a good nursing staff taking care of him. Too often, nursing assessments in the wee hours of the morning are cursory, and important things get missed until real morning. Noting that tells me he’s in good hands.

Yes. It’s my favorite.. explains why they’re usually in short supply!

I am glad they are checking into it so quickly. WhyNot is right.. sounds like they are taking really excellent care of him!

I agree! good catch, night nurse.

Warmth usually means fluid, I believe. But I’m not sure what that means in his case.

I’m so happy he’s out of ICU…keep the good news coming!

They have a bag of ice his knee - they figure it’s an autoimmune inflammatory response and/or the fact that he can’t move that leg at all.

Who mowed our lawn for us? looks around thread suspiciously Was it one of you?

Wasn’t me, but I would have if I could have. HUGS

Nope - I think it was the mods - we haven’t had a good old welcoming party on the boards in ages, and the goat was getting bored. So they sent him on over to your place.

You do NOT want to know what the squid has been up to. Trust me.

I hope this is all covered by insurance.

I’m not going to say anything about my worries about TOS’s legs. I’m really happy that TOS is doing OK out of ICU. I will nag you about eating and sleeping again. You have been neglecting yourself for a couple of months and if you don’t take some time for yourself, you are going to crash and burn.

Nagging is over now. Isn’t it wonderful to have neighbors who care enough to mow your yard instead of complaing about it?

Of course, that just says that they think you are as special as we think you are. No surprise there

I’ve been following along but haven’t posted until now, but I noticed that **flatlined **was last, and we can’t have that
I’m so glad things are looking up!
