Mr. T ain't a pimp...SciFi is

How bad does product placement have to be before we all rise up with our torches and pitchforks?

I am watching “Tracker” on SciFi for the first time. Adrian Paul (of the clan McLeod) pulls up a webpage. It’s got a 1-800-COLLECT banner. He pulls up another. Again, the 1-800-COLLECT banner. Then the bad guy tells him he’s funded his evil plan with the money he’s saved using 1-800-COLLECT.

How far does the whoring go, people, how far? Can’t all the California Dopers band together, go to Burbank, and “disappear” the product placement agents?

You’re kidding. Please. You must be. Or this is a show meant to be humorous.

Nope, not kidding.

Nope, not kidding.

Anything is an improvement after Carrot Top.

Sounds like Adrian whacked off his head.

There can be only one!!

Now that’s an add I’d like to see.

Gimme a name, a donut, a 1973 Stingray, and three days… and your problem will be solved.

I should point out that I have met the venerable Mr. T in person. I pity the fool who doesn’t believe this story…

I was eating in a sushi restaurant in Manhattan with a cousin when I heard people clapping and cheering. I look down to the first floor from my mezzanine perch only to see Lawrence Tureau, aka Mr. T, waltz in, in full gold-chain, mohawk glory. On the way to my table, he hugged random strangers. And before I could say “wasabi,” he was standing right next to me. Surveying my plate of dead fish, he said “Eat your vegetables!” And then he grabbed the waitresses ass, and then walked away into his private room.

If any of you fools didn’t believe this story, you better keep your fool mouth shut. 'Cuz if you don’t, I’m going to have to teach you a lesson. How long will I teach you this lesson? As long as it takes.

Wasn’t “Tracker” shot back in '99 or '00? Not that it makes the inclusion of a banner ad any less annoying, but I thought the show was old and moldy by now. (And, wasn’t “Tracker” shot in Canada? You’d better recruit those Canadian Dopers to do something about the sleazy product placement agents…)

I’ve no idea how old it is or where it was shot, and will likely not find out because not only is it a product-placement whore, it also sucks. It’s the TV equivalent of Highlander III.

Tracker as being shown on Sci-Fi is all reruns and it is a coupla years old. It is also known for taking more than a couple goodnatured jabs at popular culture and itself.

Wouldn’t the evil guy using 1 800 COLLECT be an inducement for us good people not to use it? Because, you know, him being evil and all.
