MS Excel 97 - Chart problem (one page only)

I hope someone can help me on this…It’s driving me nuts!!

I have an Excel 97 spreadsheet from which I am trying to make a horizontal bar chart. The data covers just under 200 lines and I’m trying to show part numbers and their due dates. (Part numbers are along the y-axis and bars stretch out against the due dates along the x-axis).

The problem is that, every time I create the chart, the chart will squeeze everything into one page!! That is, all the actual bars (representing each part number) are on one page but only the first 20-25 of the actual part numbers themselves are showing the page. It’s as if there is some box checked somewhere in Excel that won’t let the chart display more than one page.

What I want is a chart document of several pages that has the part number corresponding with its bar. I want the viewer to easily identify which part numbers are due the latest (and therefore the most critical to monitor).

Another problem: How do you change the alignment of the field entries on the y-axis? They are haphazard (aligned center, aligned right)…Maybe I need an updated version of Excel? There does not seem to be an alignment option on the y-axis menu.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

When you create the chart, you have an option of putting it as a new sheet or in an existing sheet. If you choose new sheet, it creates the one-page chart page. If you choose an existing sheet, you can resize the chart to as many rows as you like, so it will display across multiple pages. If you already have the chart created, right click the chart and choose Location; then select “As object in” to put it in a regular worksheet.

In terms of the alignment, I’m not sure. You probably have a mixture of character and numeric part numbers that it aligns differently.
