MS Word hyperlink prefs in OS X

I’m constantly editing a document that has a lot of email addresses in it, and Word automatically makes them a hyperlink, which is really irritating. I know how to take one hyperlink and turn off its linkedness, but is there a preference that turns them off globally?

Thanks in advance.

This will probably vary with the version of MS Word, and the platform, but it should at least give you some clues about where to look. In Word 2002 on WinXP, it’s under Tools, AutoCorrect Options, the AutoFormat As You Type tab - there, you’ll find a check-off box labeled “Internet and network paths with hyperlinks.” The key is to find, in your version of Word, the place where automatic formatting options get turned on and off.

Best of luck. In a similar vein, I know someone who spent about 2 days wrestling with Word’s insistence on continuing bulleted lists ad infinitum before someone showed him how to turn it off - we had to have him committed, but he’s doing much better now.

By the way, I don’t believe there’s any way to turn off all of the existing hyperlinks in a document - I’ve never found one, at any rate. The autoformat thingie will only prevent new hyperlinks from being created.
