Muddy Boots Near Dayton

<<Homer Simpson voice>> Mmmmmmm, choklit pudding. <</Homer Simpson voice>>

What? Well, somebody was gonna do it.

There’s a TronnaDope today and I’m really busy, but they might come by and visit me at work tomorrow. That would be good.

In other news, we just got more copies of Don’t Let The Pigeon Drive The Bus in at work. It’s a fine work which I suggest you all get. Put it up next to your complete Shakespeare, to add class.

And Mr. Swampington, I’m all about jewel tones. Glad you approve.

Lissla happy Canada Day, one day late! I forgot yesterday, sorry.

Kalley chocolate pudding is always an acceptable dinner and don’t let anyone ever tell you any different.

Y’all remember how I said my sprinkler system didn’t shoot high enough to be worth running nekkid through? Well, sprinkler guy came back out yesterday after I got home to see if any adjustments needed to be made. He said it should shoot higher, so he adjusted it and now it does. I also learned how to program it. I got this 'lectrical box in my garage with all kinds of knobs and buttons to push and program the system. Fun times! I have five zones. That means I can turn on sprinklers in 5 separate places in my yard if I want to. Fun times again! I can also increase and decrease the water pressure. WOOHOO Fun times! I can even make zones go off and on at different times during the day and night on all kinds of different days, if I want. Big super sized fun times! I didn’t run nekkid through the sprinklers yesterday, but there’s always today! YEEEEHAAAAAAA!!!

So, my feller Amurikens, what y’all got planned for this big three day weekend? I’m having a cookout tomorrow afternoon. Sunday, I am going to Parrott, GA for a cookout. Parrott, GA, whatever for, you ask? Well, I have some good friends who live there (it’s about 30 miles from me) and they always have a big Fourth of July cookout. Babyback ribs and all kindsa stuff! Yum! I got three big watermelons chillin’ in my beerator (don’t worry I still got room for the beer) to take up there Sunday. I’m being accompained by a burly man of my acquaintance. We’re prolly gonna spend the night cause we might get a little tipsy. Monday may be a recuperating day.

-swampbear (I may even wear my Happy Birthday America tshirt)

The folks on my little street get together for soem BBQ and assorted other good eats, and then set off fireworks. It’s a low key little adventure, but i don’t have to drive anywhere and there’s not a crowd. I haven’t decided what goodie I will bring to share. One of my neighbors is a fantastic dessert maker, so I don’t want to compete with her. I may be a bunch of tortilla roll-ups, they’re a good appetizer and they’re easy to make. Or maybe I will make brownies–my brownies are to die for, even in the face of blueberry cheesecake (with strawberry garnish. Not only is my neighbor a good cook, she’s showy).

Other than that, I’m just hoping to motivate myself to go to a movie or three. I love summer blockbusters, but i haven’t made it to one yet. Very odd.

swampy, when you go to Parrott, remember to bring some crackers.

Yep, that’s all. It’s a do-it-yourself joke on a variety of levels.

Kalley, I am so glad to hear all is okay. You are right about daytime TV. I don’t watch it; if I do, it’s almost ALWAYS on BBC America or Discovery or something like that.

I have a FOUR day weekend because today is my RDO (regular day off). I get every other Friday off from work. Lemme see, plans for the weekend.

  1. I must clean like a madwoman because my nephew called and he is bringing his mom and her SO over to our house later this afternoon. My SIL and her SO haven’t seen our house yet, so they wanna see it. Hubby also needs to mow the lawn, fertilize, etc. He and a friend are also going to go out and purchase some fireworks. We like the big mortars that make you “oooh” and “aaah”.

  2. Start helping my friend prepare for her son’s and our other neighbor’s son big B-day bash tomorrow. They’re even renting one of those big blow up things kids jump in. The party is gonna be Hawaiian style and we all must wear Hawaiian shirts. Good food and beverages will abound. Help clean up after B-day party since it must be held in my cul-de-sac and the big jumpy thing has to be at the bottom of my driveway because I have the closest power source.

  3. Sunday. America’s Birthday. We’re going to BBQ and BBQ and BBQ some more. We’re gonna eat and play and swim and have plenty of beverages on hand. Party will be once again at the Taters cul-de-sac (except for the swimming). Many good friends and some good neighbors will be in attendance. My nephew will also be in attendance. After making sure everything is properly wetted down we will shoot of a whole mess and passel o’ fireworks so we can “ooh” and “aah”.

That is my weekend in a nutshell.

I don’t have any plans other than to help Mr. Anachi start chipping away at the fugly white ceramic tile that must be removed before the beautiful Travertine tile can go in. I have a feeling I will be living with partial cement flooring for a while. :frowning:

I will also probably buy a hunk o meat sumpin to throw on the grill or rotisserarrie for sunday. I would like to go to the beach but it will be too crowded and I’m gonna be over there in about a week anyway. Which reminds me, I don’t think I’m gonna have Internet access while I’m at the beach house  just in case anyaya was gonna worry about where I was…if ya noticed that I wasn’t here, that is. :frowning:

Kalley BWAAAAHAA…, oh well, it ain’t all that funny. I tried to find something about Parrott that I could post a link to but couldn’t. Ok, maybe if I had googled I mighta but I didn’t. So There! :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m grilling hotdogs and hamburgers tomorrow. We’re also having baked beans, potato salad and some other stuff. All I’m doin’ is the dogs and burgers. Other folks are bringin’ the other stuff. It’ll be fun. It’s also supposed to rain. That’s ok though. We might not be able to hang at the pool but I can grill anyways cause I have a covered deck on which is my big honkin’ stainless steel grill with the copper burners.

Oh, and before I forget. Ex I had fried chicken for lunch today.

Regarding Item 2: Maybe you should wear a grass skirt, tie a couple of coconut shells together and a put leis around your neck! Instant hit of the party!!!

It is not wise to taunt me, swampy. Not wise at all.

A Mr. John Lawson Parrott donated the land for the town in 1889. It was for him that the town was named. Parrott was a farming community that thrived during its early years. During the 1950’s and 60’s, the population began to shrink. By 1997, the town began a revitalization project which helped bring new business and life to the area. Main Street buildings were restored and the the shops of Parrott were introduced.

Parrott’s historic mainstreet takes the visitor back to the turn of the century. Antiques, art, and the friendliest people in the world make a stroll down Main Street a wonderful respite. Two bed and breakfast inns offer an opportunity for an extended visit. Southern style cooking at the Chinaberry Cafe brings people in from all around. By the fall of 1997, an old-fashioned soda fountain will offer all those fondly remembered sweet treats. The country store should be open by then also.

I’m sure the country store has crackers. (multi-level again. I am sooooo clever.)
As for grass skirts, I’d be extra careful with them around any fireworks. We wouldn’t want the skirt to go up in a blaze of glory!

Y’all crack me up!! The coconut shells would have to be rather…uh…large. Besides, I already HAVE a hawaiian shirt, so that will just have to do. As for the grass skirt, well…that would look rather silly when I take my turn in the jumpy thingy…it would be flying up a la “Marilyn Monroe” and what if I don’t have my purty undies on…or even worse, nothing at all? That would most CERTAINLY be the talk of the neighborhood! I wouldn’t live it down for years and years to come.

Well, I must go back to cleaning. I have scrubbed all the bathrooms and washed floors in two of them and now I need to get the rest of the upstairs cleaned and vacuumed, put the laundry away, and then come down and dust and vacuum downstairs and wash the kitchen floor. Phew! I love my house, but I DON’T love cleaning it. Twice the house, and half the help cleaning it…go figure.

[The Man Show] Girls on Trampolines! [/The Man Show]

Damn, this thread was weak this week. I’m not trying to be clever with the “week” and “weak” thing either, I’m just disappointed. Seriously, the OP was GOLD and we just squandered it.

Honestly, go back and read the Origial Post of the Monday Morning Post Thread again, and tell me we didn’t fall down on the job. What we’re supposed to do here is comment on the thing and, given the opportunity, attempt to hijack it in different directions. That’s the friggin’ point of these things. They’re supposed to be unpredictable, and therefore fun. Because it was clever and fun, we also managed to suck in a few new people to play with us every week, and they then became addicted to the digital crack that is the SDMB.

Just a few, once a week. But once they got here they looked around and (maybe) decided to join us in the Fight Against Igonorance. Unless they ran away screaming.

We used to take stuff like “sleeping pigs” and use them to stretch our imaginations and tell cool stories and make the thread at least marginally interesting. We don’t do that anymore, and I’m starting to think that what Rue used to think of as a pleasure, he’s starting to regard as a chore. I don’t blame him, because all we’ve been using this for lately is a substitute for instant messaging.

We’re not going to get the old feeling back, or attract new members, unless we can get back to what we were.

Work with me here, people. More importantly, work with Unca’ Rue.

pthpthpthpthpthpthpth:p

I suppose that’s a start.

Well, you see, the problem is, for me anyway, that hiking is, you know, like exercise. And I’m strictly a, well… a potato, basically. Just a spud sittin’ in a chair. A chair with wheels, I might add, just so I can roll places, not get up or anything. I’ve been reading these books lately, all about this cat name of Nero Wolfe, you hear? And he was, like, this great detective man. Solved all his cases, like, without ever leaving his house, or chair even. I could, you know, really dig a job like that.[sup]*[/sup]

'Tis a pity I’m a brainless spud.

*I had all these extra commas to get rid of, (see?-another one of the pesky things) they were cluttering the place up something awful. I honestly had no idea they were so… beatnik. Must of been really past their expiry date.

Well, I for one, hope that our Rue doesn’t regard this as a chore. I look forward to the MMPs and enjoy them immensely. I still think we take a subject and stretch it, etc. Yeah, sometimes seems kinda like an IM thing for a couple of short bursts, but we are after all a kind of community and that’s what communities do, we gab.

You know, although I cruise the other forums at Straight Dope, I rarely post or reply to them anymore. MMP has become my little mini-home. Okay, enough cheesin’ it up. On to fun stuff.

Hubby did not eat yesterday, proceeded to drink, and is paying the price for it today. :stuck_out_tongue: I don’t know what the heck he was thinking. I can’t even mention the word alcohol around him today. There are to be festivities in the neighborhood today, which I am sure include ALCOHOL, and he has not one iota of interest in even smelling it. Too bad for him…I’m a gonna have me some beer.

The menfolk went out yesterday and bought many exploding in the sky fireworks, so between them and one of our other friends who already bought some bang-bangs, we will have nearly $400.00 worth of stuff to ooh and aah over. Plus, my nephew still plans on buying some fireworks. We are gonna have one hell of a mess to clean up. It’s all in good fun though.

Well, I need to clean myself up and head to the store to buy some b-day presents, sodie pop, and stuff.

Hi guys! I’m posting from my parent’s house - doesn’t look any different, though, huh. Well - let’s change that!

I flew in last night - didn’t do much. Today mom and I went shopping and bought some books, as we are wont to do (I love that phrase - have no idea why). Tomorrow we are going to go shopping and maybe buy some kitchenware. Monday we are going shopping and buying clothes - anyone see a pattern here?

Anyway, aside from shopping, I grooved out by the pool in my bikini, and the my brother and his future wife (just over a month to the wedding!) came over, and we did shish-kebabs and s’mores. We spent a lot of time going over wedding stuff, and it seems like they’ve got everything under control. It all sounds nice, and it perfectly fits their personality. My mom’s got all this excess wedding energy saved up, though, since she didn’t get to be too heavily involved in planning either of my siblings’ weddings. She is REALLY going to be involved in my wedding, if I ever have one. Considering I’m not even dating anyone, she’s got some time to simmer.

Anyway, going to do my best to do some quality time with Dad (may sucker him in for a walk around the neighborhood), and just basically relax. It’s all good.

Okay - back to normal.

Susan

Hiking would be a lot more fun if it didn’t involve the Great Outdoors. Really. The Great Outdoors, in my experience, usually has either snow or bugs. This is my fault, of course, for living in Canada. I’m sure the wonderful U.S.A doesn’t have snow or bugs, right, Ex?

Hmm. Now that I think about it, I like snow. Snow is a hot chocolate excuse, and you can always build big fun snow forts and snowmen and things. Since it’ssummer, I really miss snow.

Maybe I ought to stay in Canada, after all.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Sorry, Ex, that just tickled me.
