I’m boring. The dogs (2), the cat (1) the Bettas (2) and the goldfish (5.) Collectively, The Animals.
Elvis the cat usually goes by Elvisyoulittleshit.
And when I’m out somewhere with the dogs off-leash and I call them I yell “Puppies!”
Which is pretty funny, considering that gets two Rottweilers thundering towards me.
The two springers: “you jokers” or “the puppies” (they’re 4 and 6)
All the dogs (springers plus shepherd/lab): “the dogs” (boring)
The cats: “the cats,” “the kitty-cats”
Everybody: “the menagerie,” “the critters,” “you troublemakers”
Critters, Pias, Problem children.
The Beasts.
My critters. Unfortunately, my dog hates cats, and my cat hates dogs.:smack: The dog had prior dibs on the apartment, so the cat lives at work.
4 dogs and 2 cats.
The are collectively either my babies, the kids , or the critters. I call the 2 Papillons Papsters, and the Gordon Setters either Gordies or the Gordon Gang. The cats are my kitties.
The monsters, the goobers, or the fuzzles, generally.
But I randomly make up nicknames for them individually or in groups.
Weasels. Furballs. Carpet sharks. Fuzzbutts. Poo-monsters (when their litter box needs cleaning).
We call the three cats and the rabbit “the kids”. Note that just because we call them that doesn’t necessarily mean we go all the way with the concept, please…
The:
-animals
-girls (six cats, one dog, all female)
-beasts
I refer to Buffy and Maggie as MY babies, though.
We call our 4 cats “the cat beasts”
or when they do stupid stuff “furry little retarded children”
This also applies on quite a few occasions:
Besides “the cats,” the best collective name we have is “the kittizens”.
Other than that, we also have “fur”, which we use sort of like a pronoun for whatever cat happens to be attracting our attention at the moment (“Fur just destroyed the living room!”)
Eight cats here. Collectively, “the cats” or “the herd” or “you guys”.
In clumps:
Sisters Sophie and Sylvia: “the girls”
Brothers Eddy, Teddy, and Freddy: “the orange boys”
Brothers Pumpkin and Squash: “the veggie boys”
And the youngest, Sally Forth: “little rat cat” or “bugeyes”
I use a pretty natural diminuitive/term of endearment/nickname in familiar conversation.
Mindy Doo
But no illusions, she is Mindy Sue, our old doggie.
You’ve been reading in the Pit huh???
To the pets themselves, I say “gang”, “guys”, babies, cuties…just silly stuff. As in when I’m going out the door “okay gang, no wild parties!!”
To coworkers and friends I occasionally call them fur babies (in a tongue in cheek way), or just Dog, Cat and Bird, or my Pets (capital P yes, they ARE important).
“Bitey and The Boys”. All cats. Or sometimes just “The Cats” or “The Chats” if I’m feeling Gallic.
As long as we had just dogs, they were the “mutts” or the “hounds”. Now that we have cats and dogs, they’ve become the “Things”.
We have four neutered tomcats whom we collectively call–somewhat ironically–“the boys.”
The Beasts
Ironic when applied to sweet, shy, little Maggie, our youngest and smallest cat. But I suspect that Midnight and Clarence, our part-MaineCoons – would appreciate it if they could understand it. They’re BIG. And Midnight, our c ranky , somewhat arthritic oldest cat, has a definite attitude.
Three cats. When it was just the big fellas, they were ‘the gentlemen’. Now we have little Lucy too, so it’s ‘the gentlemen and the lady’. But sometimes it’s ‘shut up, nobody cares what you think’, like when they’re waiting to be fed while I make tea.
