Multiple Credit Cards I'll Never Use

In today’s mail came a letter offering me a credit card. Not the first I’ve ever received. If I had kept a total all these years, it would easily be in the hundreds. You’d think I’d be used to it by now, but they still annoy me. So I’m finally beginning to seriously consider a plan I came up with years ago, which is to fill out all these credit card thingies, don’t forward a balance, and when I get the new card, I’ll just cut it up and safely dispose of it. Let them lose even more money on me.

Now I’m no genius (as many of my previous posts will prove), nor do I claim to have any flair for the creative, so I’m sure many – if not all – of you folks out there in Straight Dopeland have thought this also, and (I’m hoping) some of you are even doing this now.

So my question is what will happen, if anything. I’ve only had two credit cards in my life. I stopped using the first, but the bank I got it from was bought out and the new one wouldn’t renew the card because I hadn’t used it in quite a while. I will keep away from cards with an annual fee, of course, but do I have to worry about minimum charges or non-use fees or crap like that?

Thanks.

What you have to worry about is having too much credit. Having the ability to charge so much money gives you a poor credit rating. All of these open credit card accounts even if you don’t use them, will be seen by anyone who is allowed to look at your credit history.
