When I try to set a gmail desktop link it defaults to whatever the last gmail account was that I had in use so I have to exit that account and log onto the desired account. Can I set up links that will automatically log me into a specific desired account?
Change “LOGIN” into your login name
Change “PASSWORD” into your password NOTE: Everyone who has access to your browser / your bookmarks can now view your password. Be careful with this.
I tried it in both IE and chrome. It does not work. It probably worked in 2009 when the tip was published, but it apparently does not work with the more recent versions.
Lastpass is a plugin for ff and chrome that will give a dropdown menu for sites where you have more than one log in and let you select which you want to use.
Google supports signing into multiple Gmail accounts simultaneously, no need for any tricks or hacks.
Once signed into the first account, click on your email account at the top-right and click on the ‘Add Account’ button - then sign into another account. Repeat as necessary. Once you’ve signed into multiple accounts you can switch to them by clicking on the email address at the top again - they’ll be listed.
If you really want shortcuts on your desktop to each account you’re signed into, you can use these:
Where the number starts with 0 and increase by 1 for each account you’ve ‘added’ using the above steps, in the order that you added them. To use these as bookmarks, you’ll have to have checked the ‘keep me logged in’ option when you added the account.
My wife and I have solved this problem. I open my Gmail in Firefox, and she opens hers in IExplorer. Both are bookmarked to default into our respective mailboxes. No problem having both browsers open at the same time on the same computer.
I’ve been doing this for a while now, very handy. My phone’s google mail app also allows me to log in to both my email accounts simultaneously as well.
